Reporting to the IT Manager, the Database Administrator shall be responsible for build and administration activities within a fast moving, complex environment. The role oversees solutions and delivery of SQL Server, MariaDB, PostGreSQL, and emerging database technologies. In this position you will require strong technical skills coupled with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment managing diverse activities in our North York Head Office.

What you will be doing:

  • Provide enterprise design, and administration of our SQL Server platforms encompassing various versions from MS SQL 2000 through 2019, as well as open-source platforms such as MariaDB.
  • Collaborate with various departments to develop new and optimize existing SQL code to ensure optimal application performance and a positive-end user experience.
  • Adhere to best practices for database design, performance, and security, including user management and database access
  • Optimize and improve data and system security through encryption and other emerging technologies
  • Troubleshoot complex issues, promote efficiency, and identify opportunities for process automation
  • Monitor Comwave’s database and related systems infrastructure using native and third-party tools such as Idera.
  • Build and maintain database disaster recovery plan and related documentation
  • Provide Incident, Problem management support and implement infrastructure/database changes.
  • Provide 24/7 emergency support for the SQL platforms
  • Staying abreast with new database technologies and analyzing such technologies to bring into scope of existing infrastructure.
  • Other duties as assigned

What you bring to the team:

  • 10 years’ experience working in SQL Server versions 2000-2019
  • Experience in setting up and maintaining SQL Server replication, clustering and other high availability solutions
  • Advanced Experience working with Complex T-SQL queries and triggers
  • In depth knowledge of SQL backup and disaster recovery solutions
  • Advanced experience in SQL Server monitoring with knowledge of third-party database monitoring tools such as Idera Diagnostic Manager
  • Database performance tuning experience including troubleshooting complex SQL procedures and query optimization
  • Scripting experience in PERL, Python, or Shell Scripting experience in PERL, GoLang Python, or Shell
  • PostGreSQL and MariaDB administration experience
  • Advanced knowledge of permissions with a focus on security
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent documentation skills
  • The ability to work evenings and weekends as required

Nice to have:

  • Experience as a developer
  • Exposure to SAP Data warehousing
  • Database Administration Certification
