The Manager for Configuration Management is responsible for Managing and optimizing the usage of Northwestel’s infrastructure resources including: capacity management, optimizing system performance and providing configuration intelligence to assist in proactively ensuring that adequate network and OSS (Operational Support Systems) capacity is provided for current and future needs.
In addition, this position provides technical support to ensure network needs are: technically feasible, promptly and accurately addressed, tracked and planned through the close interface with Planning with input from Operations and all known business requirements.

Specific Accountabilities
Capacity and Asset Management (75% of role)
- Manage power and HVAC asset records such as generator, UPS, rectifiers, batteries, inverters, power plants to support growth and strategic deployment.
- Manage life cycle of power and HVAC elements mentioned above. Optimize asset use/repurposing.
- Provide support and critical information required to design AC, DC power network, UPS and HVAC infrastructure.
- Provide capacity & utilization reports (month over month, year over year, etc.) on power and HVAC systems.
- Participate/lead continuous process improvement initiatives to increase productivity and reduce cost.
- Work closely with various internal and external partners (such as Planning, Operations, Suppliers and Contractors) and provide cost estimates, reporting, and technology insights during project planning.
- Maintain and upgrade technical expertise to meet the fast changing industry requirement.
- Review and analyze plant maintenance records and note/prioritize in-year maintenance concerns that need addressing.
- Configure and design power and HVAC assets for remote monitoring and connectivity.
- Manage the closure of previous year’s projects in SAP.
- Complete site space and power audits.
- Participate in design reviews and provide input into cutover plans.
- Document and maintain up to date design & installation guidelines, specifications, MOPS, equipment library (equipment specs) and technology standards. Establish Power and alarm installation standards: Create guidelines for consistent power installations,
Implementation (25% of Role)
- Design and develop detailed plans, installation specifications and scope of work according to company standards for capital projects.
- Once detailed plans have been developed:
- create implementation schedules,
- procure materials, equipment,
- develop contract documents for external work or workplans for internal staff work.
- coordinate infrastructure cutovers.
- oversee the implementation of the work through to final records documentation.
- Use SAP and PEATS applications for creating detailed project plans, milestone tracking, budget management, material procurement, internal and external time charging etc.
- Manage the design and commissioning of enhanced HVAC Systems: This involves integrating SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) for real-time control and monitoring.
- New Technology Implementation such as Cycle Charging: Explore efficient charging methods, Solar Integration: Leveraging solar energy solutions, Green Energy Systems: Investigate fuel cells and super capacitors.
- Participate in submittal of Requests for Change including Methods of Procedures and Roll Back plans for power or HVAC changes associated with project work and participation in Change Advisory Board meetings as Subject Matter Experts.
Knowlege and Skills Required
- Electrical or Mechanical Engineering degree with some experience in the telecommunications environment
- Excellent analytical, system performance gathering skills to determine root cause quantification.
- Solid working knowledge of power, building and supporting infrastructure provisioning.
- Project management skills for effective cutover and release management of the various systems and possess effective customer relationship skills.
