Reporting to the Practice Leader, Development, as a Software Developer on our backend services team, you’ll play a key role in building and enhancing the Konek platform — a critical part of Interac’s product ecosystem. You’ll be responsible for developing new features, improving existing functionality, and increasing unit test coverage to ensure high-quality, reliable software.

This role offers a unique opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and integrate AI into the development lifecycle. You’ll help automate unit testing and code review processes using AI-powered tools, driving efficiency and consistency across the team.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Working with lead and senior development leaders to understanding business requirements and translate them into design specifications and code

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services for the Konek application.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features.

  • Enhance unit test coverage and ensure code quality through automated testing.-

  • Leverage AI tools to streamline code reviews, identify bugs, and optimize performance.

  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups.

  • Continuously explore and adopt new technologies and best practices to improve development workflows.

You bring:

  • Currently completing an undergraduate degree from a creditable Canadian institution with a focus on computer science, software engineering, AI/Robotics or similar field

  • Experience and understanding of programming languages, databases, code management tools and unit testing

  • Proficiency in backend development using languages such as Java, Kotlin, or Node.js

  • Experience with cloud platforms (preferably AWS) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)

  • Familiarity with unit testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines

  • Interest or experience in using AI tools for development (e.g., code generation, static analysis, test automation)

  • Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for learning and innovation

  • A self-starter mindset with a drive for continuous learning – you have a natural ability to pick up new technology you enjoy solving problems while learning about new tools, technology, applications and how they work

  • Confidence in your ability to communicate verbally and written in a detailed and impactful way

  • Although not required, you have some familiarity or previous experience with the following:

  • Prior co-op experience in similar roles is an asset (Full stack Developer, Software Development Intern)

  • Understanding Agile methodologies and processes.

  • Knowledge of Security in web platform such as WebAuthN, OAuth2 etc.

  • Experience with devops tools and processes.

  • Self-motivated to learn new technologies and applications.

  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills along with strong analysis and problem-solving skills

Workstyle: Hybrid (3 days on-site)
Location: Toronto
Term: September to December 2025
Duration: Monday – Friday
