The Software Developer—reporting to the Leader, Development - Konek—will be responsible for developing and maintaining the company’s highly distributed, high-performance payment system. They will use their passion for building new products to translate the client’s business requirements and design and develop Java applications on a complex platform. With their experience in database model design for high performance systems, they will perform analysis, design, implement, and conduct performance testing and tuning.
You'll be responsible for:
Design and build RESTful microservices for a mobile app backend using Java and Spring Boot in an Agile/Scrum environment.
Write clean, well-tested code with unit and integration tests using JUnit, Mockito, and related tools.
Implement secure authentication and authorization with JWT and OpenID Connect.
Containerize services with Docker and support CI/CD pipelines for AWS deployment (ECS, EKS, etc.).
Participate in Agile ceremonies: stand-ups, sprint planning, code reviews, and retrospectives.
Create and maintain REST endpoints and business logic in Spring Boot.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues across development, staging, and production environments.
Contribute light HTML/CSS for email templates, admin tools, or simple web views.
Use monitoring and logging tools (CloudWatch, ELK, etc.) to track and diagnose issues.
Maintain documentation for APIs (Swagger/OpenAPI) and operational runbooks.
You bring:
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
0–2 years of professional or academic project experience in Java backend development.
Strong grasp of Java 8+ syntax, OOP principles, collections, and exception handling.
Spring Boot experience creating controllers, services, repositories; understanding of auto-configuration.
REST APIs ability to design endpoints, model JSON payloads, and apply proper status codes.
Basic understanding of JWT structure, token lifecycle, and OpenID Connect flows.
Familiarity with Docker and foundational AWS services (ECS/EKS, S3, RDS).
Comfortable with HTML/CSS for simple pages or email templates.
Proficient in Git workflows (branching, merging, pull requests).
Willingness to participate in sprints, adapt to change, and continuously improve.
Strong analytical skills; ability to debug issues and propose solutions.
Clear verbal/written skills; open to feedback, collaboration, and pair programming.
Eligibility to work for Interac Corp. in Canada in a full-time capacity.
