Reporting to the Leader, AppOps RTR & Overlays, the AppOps Senior Specialist will be a hands-on application subject matter lead with advanced expertise in Site Reliability engineering and Application Management.

You will drive application and platform insights and work closely with technical teams to deliver and maintain cutting edge payment solutions to our customers.

You will be responsible for maintaining, enhancing, tuning and supporting Interac’s high performance payment systems You will proactively diagnose, resolve, and mitigate application problems and ensure optimal performance and availability of National payment systems.

You will focus on building application automations through all environments, driving proactive observability, detection, and self-healing capabilities. You will respond to and action escalated critical alerts and mitigate against any service and client impact.

You will actively maintain end-end Production stability and ensure adherence with Prominent Payment system (PPS) standards for Canadian payment systems.

This is a fast-paced technical role which requires strong end-end application and systems insights, and experience managing critical workloads in cloud/hybrid/on-prem environments.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Driving, implementing and prioritizing application stability and service automation / optimization initiatives ensuring adherence and compliance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

  • Optimizing application performance and leveraging performance data, monitoring / diagnostic tools to continuously drive service excellence.

  • Analyzing application testing and production trends, proactively identify and act on emerging issues with Agile squads, driving detailed root cause analysis, and dive into the code to implement/drive tuning and enhancements.

  • Developing and implementing scalable solutions to reduce manual intervention, and streamline the process for application deployments/validations and availability (self-healing, auto-scaling, etc.)

  • Optimize the application build, development and testing by integrating and streamlining all aspects of Application Operations.

  • Implementing Application changes, configurations, and code promotions through all environments via automation and ensuring performance, reliability, and stability of our systems.

  • Designing and standardizing Enhanced Application insights including observability and trending (health rules, events, alerts) with a focus on predictive analysis and proactive intervention.

  • Create and maintain detailed technical and support documentation for our applications and systems.

  • Consolidate and automate dashboards, events and reports on Application performance metrics/KPIs.

  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and maintain application security, technology currency and vulnerabilities remediation with a keen eye on continuous process improvement and service resiliency.

  • Responding to and quickly resolving escalated issues, 24/7 rotating on call production support and proactively mitigating risk and impact to production systems

You bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.

  • You have 3+ years of programming experience in Java, Python, Spring Framework, AngularJS, etc.

  • Expertise in using version control systems, such as Git, for managing codebases and collaboration.

  • Expertise with scripting e.g. Power Shell, Python, and Ansible.

  • Experience with microservices and containerization (i.e., Docker).

  • Experience using tools such as Azure Monitor, Splunk, Dynatrace, Grafana, ServiceNow.

  • Good understanding of AKS architectural concepts: clusters, namespaces, nodes, pods, services, autoscaling, ingress policies.

  • Strong knowledge of Agile development and Agile frameworks (e.g. JIRA, GitHub)

  • Good understanding of software lifecycle including release planning, release processes, software testing, incident, problem and change management.

  • Good understanding of different types of open-source packages, preferably Spring, Apache and data transformation (JSON, XML).

  • Well versed in analyzing data, identifying and proactively mitigating risk to production systems.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and can seamlessly communicate with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Strong and energetic team player and can engage with all stakeholders in a team environment.

  • Experience working with Red Hat Open Shift (eg deploying applications, automating tasks, configuring and monitoring metrics etc)

Nice to Have:

  • Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Certification

  • Experience with DevOps concepts

  • Good understanding of database systems such as Oracle, PostgreSQL

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (or similar across AWS, GCP, etc.)

  • Experience working in Agile squads.

  • Experience working in the Financial and Payments services.

  • ITIL Certification
