In this role, you'll work in one of our IBM Consulting Client Innovation Centers (Delivery Centers), where we deliver deep technical and industry expertise to a wide range of public and private sector clients around the world. Our delivery centers offer our clients locally based skills and technical expertise to drive innovation and adoption of new technology.

Your role and responsibilities

As an Application Developer specializing in Spring Boot and Thymeleaf, you will design, modernize, and support web applications within a Java-based enterprise environment. Your role will focus on migrating legacy systems to modern, scalable Spring Boot architectures while delivering responsive and maintainable web interfaces using Thymeleaf.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • System Migration & Modernization: Design and migrate legacy Java/JEE and monolithic applications to modern Spring Boot–based microservices or modular architectures, improving performance, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Application Development: Develop and enhance enterprise applications using Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data JPA, and Thymeleaf for server-side rendering, ensuring clean separation of concerns and reusable components.
  • Transaction & Data Management: Implement robust transaction management using Spring’s declarative transaction framework, manage persistence layers, and ensure data integrity during system modernization.
  • Modern Development Practices: Apply dependency injection, inversion of control, aspect-oriented programming, functional programming concepts, and test-driven development to deliver high-quality, maintainable solutions.
  • DevOps & Deployment Enablement: Leverage DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines to support automated builds, testing, deployments, and smooth transitions during system migration and modernization initiatives.
  • Enterprise Integration: Integrate modernized Spring Boot applications with existing enterprise systems, APIs, and databases, ensuring interoperability, reliability, and consistency across platforms.

Required technical and professional expertise

  • Spring Boot Application Development Exposure:
    Exposure to designing, developing, and supporting web applications using Spring Boot, leveraging its auto-configuration, embedded servers, and production-ready features for building robust Java-based solutions.

  • Enterprise Application Development Experience:
    Experience working with Spring-based enterprise applications, including transaction management, data persistence with Spring Data, managing domain-driven Java objects, and integrating with external and enterprise systems.

  • Modern Development Methodologies Application:
    Exposure to applying core Spring Framework principles such as dependency injection (DI), inversion of control (IoC), aspect-oriented programming (AOP), RESTful service design, test-driven development (TDD), and data access frameworks within Spring Boot applications.

  • Build and DevOps Tooling Familiarity:
    Experience using Gradle for build automation, dependency management, and environment configuration, along with familiarity in DevOps practices supporting continuous integration, deployment, and application maintenance.

  • Web Development and UI Integration Skills:
    Exposure to developing server-side rendered web applications using Thymeleaf integrated with Spring MVC, focusing on clean templates, dynamic content rendering, and delivering high-quality, maintainable user interfaces.

Preferred technical and professional experience

  • Spring Boot & Server-Side Development: Exposure to building and enhancing web applications using Spring Boot with Thymeleaf for server-side rendering, improving application maintainability, performance, and user experience.

  • Functional Programming Practices: Applied functional programming principles within Java and Spring-based applications to write cleaner, more efficient, and scalable code during system enhancement and modernization efforts.

  • Batch Processing & System Integration: Familiarity with Spring Batch and batch-oriented processing to support data migration, legacy system integration, and modernization initiatives, ensuring reliable and efficient data handling across systems.
