Introduction

IBM’s Chief Sustainability Office is seeking an experienced Global Energy Program Manager to lead our enterprise‑wide ISO 50001 Energy Management System (EnMS) and drive measurable improvements in energy performance across IBM’s global operations. This role is pivotal not only in maintaining IBM’s global ISO 50001 certification, but also in advancing energy conservation initiatives that strengthen business value, cost efficiency, and operational resilience for the company.

Energy is a strategic business asset. Improving efficiency reduces operating expenses, enhances infrastructure reliability, mitigates exposure to market volatility, and enables IBM to scale its digital, cloud, and data‑intensive workloads more sustainably. By optimizing energy performance across major IBM locations and co‑located data center environments—and by leveraging AI‑driven analytics—this role helps ensure that sustainability actions directly support IBM’s competitiveness, financial performance, and long‑term resilience.

The ideal candidate brings technical expertise, strong program governance capability, and a strategic view of how energy performance translates into enterprise value. This role is well suited for a proactive, detail‑oriented professional who is highly effective engaging global stakeholders across multiple time zones.

  • Develop and maintain enterprise‑level documentation, procedures, and reporting aligned with ISO 50001 requirements.

Global Energy Performance & Conservation Program

  • Lead enterprise-wide efforts to achieve IBM’s energy conservation and Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) goals, driving performance improvement initiatives, monitoring progress against internal targets, and collaborating across global teams to ensure consistent execution and measurable results.
  • Manage global energy data collection, validation, and analytics to track Energy Performance Indicators (EnPIs), Significant Energy Uses (SEUs), and performance against baselines.
  • Identify, prioritize, and support implementation of energy conservation opportunities across IBM’s portfolio, including co‑located data center environments.
  • Lead annual reporting on energy consumption, PUE, water usage, and progress toward IBM’s energy and operational efficiency goals.
  • Translate technical findings into financial and resilience implications, helping senior leadership understand cost savings, risk reduction, and performance impacts.

AI & Innovation Integration

  • Integrate AI‑driven tools to improve data integrity, anomaly detection, and automated flagging of significant deviations in energy consumption.
  • Deploy predictive models to dynamically update Energy Baselines (EnBs) and forecast future energy demand.
  • Utilize generative AI for automated creation and maintenance of ISO‑required documentation and audit materials.
  • Leverage advanced analytics to identify non‑obvious efficiency opportunities, supporting both sustainability goals and operational cost optimization.

Global Project & Stakeholder Management

  • Manage relationships with major IBM locations, facilities teams, data center operators, and external vendors to ensure alignment and execution of energy‑related initiatives.
