ndia Systems Development Lab (ISDL) is part of IBM Systems’ worldwide technology development organization. Established in 1996, the lab is headquartered in India’s Silicon Valley and start‑up hub, Bengaluru, with a strong presence in Pune and Hyderabad.

Developers at ISDL deliver technology innovations across the entire IBM Systems portfolio, including IBM Z Systems, Power / OpenPOWER Systems, and Storage. The teams work across the full technology stack—from processor design and firmware to the operating system and software‑defined storage.

ISDL places a strong emphasis on innovation, driven by the creative energy of its teams. To date, the lab has contributed 400+ patents in cutting‑edge technologies and inventions. As computing evolves toward cognitive, cloud, mobile, social, and security paradigms, ISDL has not only delivered new products in these areas but has also pioneered modern development practices such as Agile, Design Thinking, and DevOps.

Your role and responsibilities
Build the world’s simplest and most intuitive management system on IBM Z Systems, enabling customers to easily manage their resources. Contribute to the simplification and modernization of Z resource management by delivering a comprehensive set of capabilities for System Programmers.
  • Design and develop high‑level solutions for assigned enhancements by working closely with the Product Owner, incorporating guidance as needed.
  • Collaborate with UX/UI designers to prototype and implement innovative solutions aligned with product initiatives.
  • Write clean, readable, scalable, and efficient code, supported by rigorous testing practices.
  • Review component designs and associated code pull requests, providing constructive and actionable feedback to team members.
  • Identify test scenarios and create comprehensive unit, functional, and integration test cases.
  • Integrate test automation into development and delivery workflows.
  • Execute testing in virtual and real environments, covering component, system, and system‑integration levels.
  • Participate actively in weekly sprint ceremonies, provide status updates to the Iteration Manager, and deliver sprint demos.
  • Ensure timely delivery of user stories associated with product initiatives.
  • Identify, triage, and resolve defects discovered during various testing phases.
  • Communicate effectively and collaborate with local and global team members as well as key stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities for customer engagement and lead technical discussions with clients and stakeholders under the guidance of the Product Owner.
  • Drive product hygiene initiatives, including adherence to organizational security practices, accessibility testing, and product build processes.
  • Build and enhance the continuous integration (CI) environment to support automated delivery pipelines.
  • Demonstrate readiness to lead a team of engineers, provide technical and interpersonal support, and collaborate closely to achieve business objectives.

  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in a full-stack development role.
  • Strong programming skills in:
    • Java
    • Python
    • JavaScript
    • React
    • Angular
  • Experience developing code interfaces such as REST APIs and WebSockets.
  • AI/ML experience, including:
    • Frameworks/libraries such as PyTorch and TensorFlow
    • Strong foundation in mathematics, statistics, and model training
  • Exposure to:
    • Prompt Engineering
    • Agentic AI
    • Large Language Models (LLMs)
  • Strong experience with application servers and frameworks, including:
    • Liberty
    • J2EE
    • Jakarta
  • Experience with:
    • RESTful APIs
    • Integrating frontend applications with backend services
    • Data formats such as JSON and XML
    • z/OS, z/OSMF, system management
  • Strong debugging skills, with the ability to quickly root-cause issues.
  • Experience performing code reviews.
  • Familiarity with unit, functional, and system testing frameworks and tools.
  • Experience with security development tools and processes.
  • Software development experience in an Agile environment.
  • Experience with DevOps tooling, including:
    • Git
    • Jenkins
    • Maven
    • Jira
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proven ability in leading and mentoring a team of developers.
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines and teams, and work effectively in a global team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize a busy workload.
  • Experience in team leadership with clear mission ownership.
Preferred technical and professional experience
  • z/OS , z/VM architecture
  • Dump analysis using Interactive Problem Control System (IPCS), with the ability to interpret logs and dumps.
