Your role and responsibilities

As a Brand Technical Specialist for Confluent within IBM's Data Platform, you will act as a technical consultant to IBM clients and sellers by architecting solutions and delivering Proofs of Technology. In this role, you will utilize your technical expertise to drive business growth through effective solution delivery and client-facing interactions. Your primary responsibilities will include:

• Design Solution Architectures: Architect event driven solutions for IBM clients and sellers to meet their specific business needs and drive growth.

• Deliver Proofs of Technology: Deliver Proofs of Technology to demonstrate their capabilities and value to clients.

• Collaborate with Clients and Sellers: Work closely with clients and sellers to understand their technical requirements and provide technical guidance.

• Develop Technical Strategies: Develop technical strategies for product implementation, leveraging your expertise in Apache Kafka, Flink and related Confluent capabilities.

• Optimize Solution Delivery: Optimize solution delivery methodologies to ensure timely and effective deployment.

Required education
High School Diploma/GED
Preferred education
Bachelor's Degree
Required technical and professional expertise

Deep knowledge of the Apache Kafka and Flink ecosystem, distributed systems, and microservices architecture.

Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP, specifically within GovCloud environments.

Familiarity with government procurement cycles and security frameworks (NIST, FISMA, DoD Impact Levels).

• Ability to code/script in Java, Python, or Go to build demos and integrations with the ability to architect solutions and deliver Proofs of Technology.

• Technical Consulting Skills: Experience in providing technical guidance to clients and sellers on event-driven patterns, to meet their specific business needs.

• Solution Architecture: Experience designing event driven and messaging solution architectures to drive business growth through effective solution delivery.

• Technical Strategy Development: Experience developing technical strategies for Confluent and Kafka implementation

• Solution Delivery Optimization: Experience optimizing solution delivery methodologies to ensure timely and effective deployment.

Preferred technical and professional experience

Experience and Familiarity with US Federal Market

• Air-Gapped Environments: You’ll often discuss how to run Confluent in disconnected environments where there is no internet access.

• The "Legacy" Challenge: You will spend a lot of time talking about CDC (Change Data Capture)—extracting data from mainframes and moving it into real-time streams.

• Complex Stakeholders: You aren't just talking to developers; you're often presenting to Chief Data Officers (CDOs) and Security Authorizing Officials (AOs) who care deeply about data sovereignty.

• Additional Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with messaging and storage products and integration techniques like Astronomer, Cassandra, Data Replication can be advantageous in providing technical guidance to clients and sellers.

The compensation range and benefits for this position are based on a full-time schedule for a full calendar year. The salary will vary depending on your job-related skills, experience and location. Pay increment and frequency of pay will be in accordance with employment classification and applicable laws. For part time roles, your compensation and benefits will be adjusted to reflect your hours. Benefits may be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year.


This position is eligible for participation in an IBM Sales Incentive plan. Actual incentive opportunity will be based on performance and the eligible Target Incentive, as addressed in the applicable plan, all of which is subject to change. The compensation range listed for this position is the IBM Reference Salary that is used when you are not actively participating in a sales plan. Your actual base pay plus incentive opportunity will be determined by the Incentive Plan assigned to you.
