ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a senior, high-visibility enterprise architecture role at the intersection of technology strategy and operational transformation in the Oil & Gas sector. As Enterprise Architect for Data & AI Transformation, you will serve as the most senior technical voice and strategic advisor across all Oil & Gas brands, business units, and asset classes — from upstream exploration and production through midstream, downstream, and energy transition initiatives.
This is not a back-office architecture role. You will operate at the executive level — engaging directly with C-suite leaders, senior stakeholders, and deep technical teams in equal measure. You will be expected to translate complex technical strategy into compelling, boardroom-ready narratives, and in the next breath, engage credibly with solution architects, data engineers, and field operations technology specialists on the granular specifics of system design.
You will work across a sophisticated partner ecosystem that includes some of the world's largest Global System Integrators (GSIs) and technology partners — including IBM Consulting — as well as specialist technology vendors, cloud hyperscalers, and domain-specific solution providers. Success in this role requires the ability to orchestrate across these relationships while maintaining clarity of architecture vision and accountability for outcomes.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for an enterprise architect who combines rare breadth with genuine depth — someone who is as comfortable defining a multi-year AI transformation roadmap as they are whiteboarding a data mesh architecture or pressure-testing an integration pattern with a technical delivery team.
The ideal candidate brings intellectual curiosity as a defining professional characteristic. You are someone who is driven to understand not just the technology, but the business context, the operational constraints, and the human dynamics that determine whether an architecture succeeds or fails in the field. You read widely, stay ahead of the curve in AI and cloud, and bring fresh thinking to every client engagement.
You communicate with exceptional clarity and confidence. Whether you are presenting a transformation strategy to a board of executives, facilitating a working session with field engineers, or negotiating technical tradeoffs with a GSI delivery lead, your communication is precise, persuasive, and calibrated to your audience. You know when to simplify and when to go deep — and you do both with ease.
You operate with a strong sense of urgency. In Oil & Gas, decisions carry real operational and financial weight, and the pace of technology change is unrelenting. You move quickly, bring energy to your work, and drive momentum in teams and client organizations alike. You do not wait for perfect information — you make sound judgments, act, and course-correct with speed.
Architecture Leadership Across Oil & Gas Brands
• Serve as the enterprise architecture authority across all Oil & Gas brands and business units, ensuring coherent, integrated, and forward-looking architecture strategy from upstream to downstream
• Navigate the distinct technical complexity and operational constraints of each part of the O&G value chain — including exploration, drilling, production, refining, trading, and distribution — and design architecture frameworks that account for sector-specific requirements around safety, reliability, regulatory compliance, and operational continuity
• Bridge the gap between enterprise IT strategy and operational technology (OT) environments, including SCADA systems, historian data platforms, and edge computing in field operations
Data & AI Transformation Strategy
• Define and own the enterprise-level data and AI architecture, including data platform design, AI/ML model deployment patterns, data governance frameworks, and the integration of operational and enterprise data at scale
• Convert business requirements and organizational priorities into actionable technical specifications, scalable solution designs, and investment-ready business cases
• Design and lead proof-of-concept and prototype engagements that demonstrate tangible business value rapidly, creating the organizational confidence and momentum needed to scale
• Apply expertise across one or more major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) to architect scalable, resilient, and secure solutions that meet the unique demands of O&G operations
Executive & Technical Stakeholder Engagement
• Engage directly with CxO-level stakeholders — CEOs, CTOs, CIOs, CDOs, and COOs — to shape technology strategy, secure executive sponsorship, and align architecture decisions with business value
• Present complex architectural strategies, transformation roadmaps, and investment proposals in an executive manner — with confidence, authority, and the ability to make the complex feel clear and compelling
• Engage with equal credibility in deep technical forums alongside solution architects, data engineers, cybersecurity leads, and OT specialists — earning the trust of technical communities through substance, not just seniority
• Work closely with clients' IT managers, enterprise architects, and development teams to assess existing infrastructure and deliver transformation recommendations that are pragmatic, phased, and aligned with organizational capacity to change
GSI & Partner Ecosystem Leadership
• Lead and orchestrate across a complex partner ecosystem including major Global System Integrators such as IBM Consulting, as well as technology vendors, cloud partners, and specialist solution providers
• Navigate multi-party delivery environments with clarity and authority — defining architectural guardrails, managing technical interdependencies, and ensuring coherent outcomes across parallel workstreams delivered by different organizations
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with senior technical and commercial leaders at partner organizations, fostering a culture of collaboration and shared accountability for outcomes
Delivery Excellence & Agile Ways of Working
• Apply agile development methodologies and architecture frameworks to deliver iterative, high-quality solutions that respond to changing business priorities without sacrificing long-term architectural integrity
• Drive pace and momentum across architecture and delivery teams — establishing a culture of urgency, accountability, and continuous improvement
• Identify risks and blockers early, communicate them clearly, and drive resolution with a bias toward action

• Significant enterprise architecture experience in the Oil & Gas sector, with demonstrable exposure to multiple parts of the O&G value chain (upstream, midstream, downstream, or energy transition)
• Proven track record of engaging at C-suite and board level — presenting architecture strategy and transformation investment cases with executive credibility and professional authority
• Experience working in or alongside large Global System Integrators (GSIs) such as IBM Consulting, Accenture, Deloitte, or equivalent — understanding the commercial, delivery, and governance dynamics of multi-party engagements
• Hands-on experience with one or more major cloud platforms and a strong understanding of hybrid and multi-cloud architecture in industrial environments
• Exceptional communication skills — written and verbal — with the ability to adapt register and depth for audiences ranging from field operations technologists to global executive leaders
• Demonstrated intellectual curiosity: a track record of proactively learning, challenging assumptions, and bringing fresh perspectives to architecture challenges
• Strong personal drive and sense of urgency — you take ownership, move decisively, and inspire the same in others
