This role involves examination, possession or transfer of controlled goods and technology as defined under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program and ITAR data/technology. To be eligible for employment in this role, you must be a Canadian citizen or Canadian Permanent Resident. Canadian citizens and permanent residents must be security assessed under the Canadian controlled goods program. If you hold dual or third nationality, in addition to being either a Canadian citizen or Canadian Permanent Resident the nationality must be from one of the following countries in order to be eligible for employment in this role: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, or the United Kingdom. All applicants will also be required to undergo an additional security assessment conducted by an IBM designated Controlled Goods Program official as a condition of employment.
This role is onsite in Ottawa, Ontario only.
As an entry level Application Developer at IBM, you’ll provide technical support and maintenance by applying knowledge of application functionality and related technical design/interfaces with other systems/applications, responsible for running applications in a trouble-free manner, knowledge of integrated development and test environments, tools, infrastructure and managed support services to support complex solutions. You will also be responsible for developing a strong understanding of the solutions and their capabilities to be able to design, build, and test new capabilities into existing applications and systems.
Requirements:
Required Professional and Technical Capabilities
· Follow clean code principles, modular design, and appropriate design patterns for web applications; apply team application and system development processes.
· Design, develop, test, and review solutions by writing unit, integration, and end‑to‑end tests, participating in code reviews, and contributing to architecture discussions.
· Analyze, debug, and resolve issues in line with technical requirements and required standards, including performance optimization and troubleshooting complex application behavior.
· Translate technical business requirements into well‑defined technical solutions that align with organizational standards and interoperability requirements.
· Develop and maintain full‑stack solutions using JavaScript (ES6+), TypeScript, modern frontend frameworks (React, Vue, Angular), Node.js backends, and RESTful APIs, with working knowledge of Python for backend services or scripting.
· Collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams to deliver high‑quality solutions, demonstrating strong verbal and written communication skills.
· Clearly document technical solutions to support testing, knowledge sharing, and ongoing maintenance while continuously building technical knowledge and experience.
• Experience with event-driven or publish–subscribe architectures
• Knowledge of API gateways, microservices patterns, HTML5, CSS3, responsive design and Git based workflows
• Experience working in regulated or high-security environments
• Contributed to the evaluation of solutions developed by fellow team members or third parties.
