In this role, you'll work in one of our IBM Consulting Client Innovation Centers (Delivery Centers), where we deliver deep technical and industry expertise to a wide range of public and private sector clients around the world. Our delivery centers offer our clients locally based skills and technical expertise to drive innovation and adoption of new technology.

Your role and responsibilities

Als Application Architect – Application Modernization (m/w/d) bist du dafür verantwortlich, die Modernisierung bestehender Legacy‑Systeme zu konzipieren und zu begleiten. Du entwickelst moderne, skalierbare und cloud‑native Architekturen, die sowohl heutigen Geschäftsanforderungen als auch zukünftigem Wachstum gerecht werden. Dabei verbindest du tiefes technisches Know‑how mit strategischem Blick auf langfristige Transformationsziele.

Zu deinen Hauptaufgaben gehören:
• Verantwortung für die End‑to‑End‑Architektur von Modernisierungsinitiativen über verschiedene Cloud‑Plattformen hinweg (AWS, Azure, IBM Cloud, Google Cloud)
• Design von Microservices‑Architekturen, APIs, Datenmodellen und Integrationsmustern zur Entwicklung modularer, skalierbarer und wartungsfreundlicher Anwendungen
• Definition von Containerisierungs‑ und Orchestrierungsstrategien auf Basis von Docker und Kubernetes
• Architektur sicherer, resilienter und konformer Systeme mit Fokus auf cloud‑native Security‑ und Governance‑Ansätze
• Enge Zusammenarbeit mit Development‑, DevOps‑ und Infrastruktur‑Teams zur Implementierung von CI/CD‑Pipelines und Automatisierungsframeworks
• Unterstützung bei der Integration generativer KI‑Technologien (z. B. Watson, Azure OpenAI, Bedrock, Vertex AI) in modernisierte Anwendungen
• Erstellung von Modernisierungs‑Roadmaps unter Einsatz von Methoden wie AMM (Application Modernization Method) und Tools wie ICA (IBM Cloud Automation)
• Sicherstellung von Test‑Governance und Performance‑Optimierung während des gesamten Modernisierungsprozesses
• Architektonische Begleitung von Datenmigrationen, der Integration von Legacy‑Systemen (z. B. RPG, AIX, Mainframe Z) sowie hybriden Cloud‑Bereitstellungen

Required technical and professional expertise

• Fundierte Erfahrung in der Steuerung hochkomplexer, unternehmenskritischer IT‑Projekte (Systems Engineering)
• Nachweislich mindestens ein erfolgreich abgeschlossenes Projekt über den gesamten Lebenszyklus – von der Anforderungsanalyse bis zur Produktionsaufnahme
• Formale Qualifikation als Open Group Certified Architect Level 1 oder eine vergleichbare Zertifizierung
• Sicherer Umgang mit modernen Vorgehensmodellen und Notationen wie Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, UML oder BPMN
• Mehrjährige Erfahrung in der Entwicklung von IT‑Lösungsarchitekturen sowie fundiertes Verständnis moderner Architekturen und Technologien (Microservices, Container‑Technologien, DevOps, Sicherheitsarchitekturen)
• Sehr gute Kenntnisse relevanter Technologien und Frameworks wie Java, Jakarta EE (JEE), Java MicroProfile, Architekturmuster, SOA und Webservices
• Fähigkeit, komplexe technische Inhalte adressatengerecht aufzubereiten und zu präsentieren
• Ausgeprägte Lösungsorientierung sowie strukturierte und eigenständige Arbeitsweise
• Ganzheitliches, analytisches Denkvermögen sowie Erfahrung in der Anwendung und Einhaltung von Design‑ und Architekturmustern
• Sehr gute Deutschkenntnisse in Wort und Schrift

Preferred technical and professional experience

• Erfahrungen mit Technologien des Bestandssystems, z. B. Java, EJBs oder COBOL
