In this role, you'll work in one of our IBM Consulting Client Innovation Centers (Delivery Centers), where we deliver deep technical and industry expertise to a wide range of public and private sector clients around the world. Our delivery centers offer our clients locally based skills and technical expertise to drive innovation and adoption of new technology.
As a Complex Project Manager, you will be responsible for the delivery of large-scale, high-impact projects involving hybrid multicloud platforms. This role focuses on integrating public, private, and hybrid cloud environments (e.g., AWS, IBM ,Azure, Google Cloud, and on-premises infrastructure) to drive enterprise-level innovation, modernization, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will manage complex application development, infrastructure migrations, and security implementations, ensuring alignment with business objectives, stakeholder expectations, and regulatory compliance. This is a hybrid position, blending remote and on-site work, with opportunities to collaborate on cutting-edge multicloud strategies. This role requires bridging technical teams, stakeholders, and Japanese clients, leveraging bilingual proficiency to facilitate effective communication in multinational environments. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in cloud platforms, data pipelines, devops practices, analytics tools, and agile methodologies, while managing risks, budgets, and timelines for high-stakes projects in software development and data-centric initiatives.

This position is suited for professionals with 7 to 10 years of experience in technical project management, particularly in cloud-native applications and data analytics transformations, and who can thrive in cross-cultural settings with Japanese enterprise clients.
What you’ll do:
As a Complex Project Manager you will:
• Lead end-to-end project lifecycle for cloud application development and deployment, including scoping, resource allocation, timeline management, and budget oversight, with integrated data workflows for analytics and reporting.
• Cloud Infrastructure Oversight: Drive the design, deployment, and optimization of hybrid multicloud architectures, including networking, security controls, and application migrations. Ensure seamless integration across platforms like AWS, IBM,Azure, and on-premises systems, with a focus on scalability and cost efficiency.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (developers, data engineers, analysts, QA, and stakeholders) to design and implement data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and analytics solutions on cloud platforms for scalable data processing and insights generation.
• Act as a bilingual liaison between Japanese clients, internal teams, and third-party vendors, ensuring clear communication of technical requirements, progress updates, issue resolutions, and data insights in both Japanese and English.
• Identify and mitigate project risks, including those related to cloud scalability, data privacy/compliance, integration challenges, and analytics accuracy; conduct post-release reviews, performance optimizations, and data quality audits.
• Oversee application releases from development through testing and production deployment on cloud platforms, including data lake/warehouse management and monitoring of analytics dashboards for key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Develop and maintain project documentation, including technical support guides, data models, estimation plans, and knowledge bases using tools like Jira, Confluence, and data cataloguing platforms.
• Drive customer success by providing tailored solutions, troubleshooting complex data-related issues, and aligning deliverables with business objectives in Japanese market contexts, such as predictive analytics and trend forecasting.
• Stay abreast of emerging cloud and data analytics technologies (e.g., AI/ML integration for advanced analytics), incorporating best practices to enhance data governance, reliability, and efficiency.
• Exposure to Complex Project Management: Experience working with complex IT, business, and client requirements, utilizing project management techniques for planning, tracking, change control, and risk management.
• Hybrid Cloud Platform Expertise: Exposure to Hybrid Cloud platforms, including managing scope, cost, schedule, and contractual deliverables for complex projects.
• IPPF Tool Proficiency: Experience working with the IPPF tool for tracking costs and invoices as per contract delivery milestones.
• Project Team Leadership: Exposure to leading project teams in delivering solutions for complex IT, business, and client requirements.
• Project Management Methodologies: Experience applying project management methodologies to ensure efficient and effective project delivery.
Certifications in Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT N2 or higher; N1 preferred cloud (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect), OR Data Analytics (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Scientist, Certified Analytics Professional).
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field. Advanced certifications (e.g., PMP, AWS Certified Data Analytics, Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate) preferred.
• Understanding of the technology used in a large Enterprise infrastructure environment would be advantageous (i.e. Linux, Networking, Servers, Databases, Web Infrastructure, Virtualization, Storage, Cloud, Cyber).
• 5 to 8 years in technical project management for software development, cloud infrastructure, or data analytics projects. - Proven track record managing cloud application projects on platforms like AWS or Azure, including migration, scaling, optimization, and data storage/processing implementations. - 3+ years leading data and analytics initiatives, such as building BI dashboards, data pipelines, predictive modeling, or big data workflows in enterprise environments. - Experience supporting Japanese clients or multinational teams, including vendor management and change management for data-driven projects
• Proficiency in cloud services (AWS,IBM, Azure) for application hosting, storage, networking, and data services, Strong knowledge of data and analytics: SQL/NoSQL querying (e.g., Oracle, MongoDB), ETL/ELT processes (e.g., Apache Airflow, Talend), big data tools (Hadoop, Spark) Familiarity with agile tools (Jira, Confluence), collaboration platforms (MS Teams, Outlook), and data governance practices (e.g., data lineage, metadata management).
• Experience in 24x7 support environments or ITIL-compliant processes for incident/problem management, including data anomaly detection and resolution.
• Prior exposure to Japanese enterprise sectors (e.g., manufacturing, Industrial & IT) with cultural sensitivity and data analytics applications in those domains.
• Crisis management
• Ability to lead conference calls with large groups of geographically dispersed stakeholders.
• Ability to thrive and maintain calm in a variety of high-stress situations.
