Introduction

As a Storage Brand Partner Technical Specialist your purpose is to influence your partners' technical strategies, working to incorporate and embed IBM's Data Brand’s portfolio into Partner's reference architectures, practices, and solutions versus competition.

More specifically, the mission of the PTS-Service is to lead the market-specific technology strategy for your assigned partner(s) including architecture, workflows and stakeholder responsibilities. You will lead client-facing PoXs/PoCs with the partner to include demos, reference architecture, and pilots. Additionally, you will lead technical discussions of global partner platforms to be compliant with market-specific requirements to drive adoption in-country, and you will serve as the focal point to increase IBM technology delivery for in-market partner/client engagements.

The PTS – Service also assists in the validation of our RSI’s Influence efforts by creating and executing Technical Activities (Briefings, Workshops, Architectural Reviews/Discovery, Demos, and Pilots) that are then associated with Influence opportunities. The combination of Sales Activities with Technical Activities is compelling evidence that can be used in the Influence approval process.

As a deep technical seller, you'll increase your partners' technical capabilities by enabling their sales and technical sellers to demonstrate IBM Technology, at scale, with your clients.

Your role and responsibilities

The PTS Service - Storage role is focused on the Storage Brand. You will have the primary goals of expanding the capability/capacity of the overall Ecosystem and driving the progression of partner growth opportunities, your account set will consist of the Growth Partner Regional Systems Integrators. These Growth RSIs are categorized as Service Partners.

A significant part of the role is to act as a technical consultant. In this aspect of the role, you'll build trust, understand the value of our partners' offerings, and co-create solutions that demonstrate the value of our relationship. The result being that you will build confidence which motivates partners to include IBM solutions at the heart of their client proposals.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Facilitation of Pre-Sales Technical Activities: Facilitate pre-sales, experiential technical activities such as technology demonstrations and co-creation working sessions that lead to proofs of concept (PoC) and/or minimal viable products (MVPs) within the Storage Brand.
  • Leadership in Building Technical Skills: Lead the delivery of joint-learning activities to build technical skills and expertise of partners, enabling co-selling opportunities.
  • Continuous Knowledge Expansion: Continuously expand essential business, industry, technology, architecture, and competitive knowledge in the Storage Brand Portfolio.

  • Deep Technical Expertise in a Data Brand Product Portfolio: Demonstrable client-facing, deep technical subject matter expertise within the Storage brand's product portfolio such as FlashSystem, Storage Suite for Cloud Paks, Storage Orchestration, and IBM Spectrum Fusion. The successful candidate should have the ability to discuss, demonstrate, and teach the associated technologies.
  • Excellence in Communication and Collaboration: Provable excellence in people, communication, and collaboration skills, with a track record of networking and influencing, at all levels, throughout the successful closure of complex technology sales cycles (ranging from $10k to multi-million-dollar deals), achieved both independently and through teamwork.
  • Attention to Detail and System Usage: Proven discipline and attention to detail with the usage of sales management and recording systems, as well as efficient expectation setting and follow-up practices.
Preferred technical and professional experience
  • Understanding of IBM's Data Product Suite: A strong comprehension of IBM's extensive Storage Portfolio as described above. Additionally, the successful candidate should also have experience with storage systems, including data resilience, data and AI, and storage for IBM Z.
  • 2 years’ experience in one or more of the following Data Solution Offerings FlashSystem, Storage Suite for Cloud Paks, Storage Orchestration, and IBM Spectrum Fusion.

The compensation range and benefits for this position are based on a full-time schedule for a full calendar year. The salary will vary depending on your job-related skills, experience and location. Pay increment and frequency of pay will be in accordance with employment classification and applicable laws. For part time roles, your compensation and benefits will be adjusted to reflect your hours. Benefits may be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year.


This position is eligible for participation in an IBM Sales Incentive plan. Actual incentive opportunity will be based on performance and the eligible Target Incentive, as addressed in the applicable plan, all of which is subject to change. The compensation range listed for this position is the IBM Reference Salary that is used when you are not actively participating in a sales plan. Your actual base pay plus incentive opportunity will be determined by the Incentive Plan assigned to you.
