Introduction

As a Technical Project manager with HashiCorp’s Resident Technology Services (RTS) team, you are the operational anchor of our most strategic, long-term customer engagements. You manage the delivery environment with a customer for a RTS team/pod that may consist of multiple Resident Solutions Architects (RSAs) and Resident Solutions Engineers (RSEs) assigned to one particular engagement.

While the RSAs focus on high-level architectural design and strategic direction/roadmap, and the RSEs focus on technical implementation, you are responsible for the Ground Truth: ensuring that the delivery team and the customer are perfectly aligned on day-to-day expectations, timelines, and the reality of what can be achieved. You act as a primary shield for the entire RTS team/pod, ensuring their technical expertise is applied effectively within standard business hours and protecting the collective squad from scope creep, "shadow" tasks, and staff augmentation requests through clear enforcement of engagement boundaries.

Your role and responsibilities

1. Technical Stakeholder & Expectation Management

  • Delivery Alignment & Synchronization: Serve as the primary anchor between the RS team and the customer’s project leads. You will work with the RTS lead to ensure that the technical backlog is not just a list of tasks, but a mutually agreed-upon roadmap that delivers long-term value for the customer.
  • Navigate Influence: Identify and assist the RS team to manage various stakeholders within customer teams (e.g., Platform Engineering vs. Security vs. App Dev) to ensure alignment on the RTS mission.
  • SoW Adherence: Proactively manage and enforce the operational boundaries of the RTS engagement.
  • Progress Transparency: Maintain executive-ready status reporting and facilitate steering discussions to ensure alignment at both delivery and leadership levels of the customer. You ensure there are "no surprises" regarding delivery timelines, eliminating the "emergency" culture that leads to chaotic delivery.

2. Scope Prioritization & Agility

  • Dynamic Prioritization: Work with the assigned Residents to prioritize the backlog based on customer impact and needs, technical urgency, and other relevant considerations. You must have the technical fluency to recognize "scope creep" disguised as "quick favors" and navigate the associated commercial or timeline trade-offs.
  • Change Management: When customer priorities shift, lead teh adjustment of project goals, prioritization, and scope.

3. Dellvery Excellence

  • Blocker Removal & Resolution: Proactively identify and resolve technical and organizational blockers (e.g., pending firewall changes, lack of API access, or missing internal approvals). You are the "pathfinder" who ensures the RTS team never sits idle.
  • Risk Mitigation: Maintain a rigorous risk log focusing on organizational and technical bottlenecks. You must be able to flag "Yellow" or "Red" status early and provide clear, actionable mitigation strategies to customer leadership.
  • Definition of Ready: Ensure the customer understands their responsibilities (e.g., providing credentials and environment readiness) before the RTS team begins work, ensuring the team's time is utilized effectively.
  • Timeline and Sustainability: Track engagement burn and proactively surface risks related to scope, timeline, or commercial sustainability.
Required education
Bachelor's Degree
Preferred education
Master's Degree
Required technical and professional expertise

  • Operational Firmness: Proven ability to have difficult conversations regarding resource availability and working hours. You must be comfortable saying "no" or "not now" to preserve the health of the delivery team.
  • Technical Fluency: A strong understanding of the "Cloud Operating Model," DevOps workflows, and CI/CD. You don't need to code, but you must be capable of understanding the technical dependencies of HashiCorp products (Terraform, Vault, Consul).
  • Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC): Basic understanding of common SDLC methodologies (e.g., Agile) and their relevance to project delivery.
  • Consultative Experience: 5+ years in Technical Project Management or Professional Services, specifically within an embedded or "Resident" service model.
  • Conflict Resolution: High EQ and the ability to navigate power dynamics between customer teams (e.g. Security, Platform, App Dev) to keep projects moving.
  • Executive & Delivery Communication: Exceptional ability to provide executive-ready updates on engagement health, risks, and outcomes, translating technical delivery into business impact.
Preferred technical and professional experience
  • Experience with HashiCorp products (Terraform, Vault, etc.).
  • PMP or Agile/Scrum certifications.
