As an Investor at IBM Ventures, the venture capital arm of IBM, you will work directly with entrepreneurs to accelerate the growth of category‑defining companies by providing capital, strategic guidance, and access to IBM’s global platform. You will contribute to the full investment lifecycle, from thesis development and sourcing to due diligence, execution, and portfolio support.
You will also collaborate closely with cross‑functional leaders across IBM to identify strategic alignments, support partnership opportunities, and strengthen IBM Ventures’ presence within the broader startup ecosystem. The ideal candidate is intellectually curious, relationship‑driven, and excited to represent IBM in a fast‑moving entrepreneurial environment.
Primary Responsibilities include:
Leading and supporting market, financial, product, and technical due diligence for prospective investments.
Analyzing technology trends, competitive landscapes, and emerging market opportunities to inform investment theses.
Building and managing relationships with founders, venture funds, accelerators, and internal IBM stakeholders to source opportunities and evaluate strategic relevance.
Prepare, refine, and present investment memoranda, internal presentations, and decision materials for senior leadership.
Support ongoing portfolio management, including performance tracking, strategic analysis, partnership development, and board‑level preparation.
Contribute to strategic projects, ecosystem programming, and content that enhances IBM Ventures’ brand, visibility, and impact.
Required technical and professional expertise
10+ years of experience evaluating market structure, competitive dynamics, and financial performance at a VC fund, PE fund, growth equity firm, strategy consultancy, or investment bank.
Strong quantitative and analytical skills with proficiency in financial modeling.
Demonstrated passion for technology, startups, and innovation, with familiarity across emerging technology trends.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to build clear, compelling slide narratives.
Effective collaborator who thrives in a cross‑functional, fast‑moving environment.
Preferred technical and professional experience
Experience evaluating companies in AI, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, data platforms, DevOps, enterprise SaaS, or deep tech.
Prior involvement in early‑stage venture investment, including sourcing, market landscaping, portfolio support, or board observation.
Network within the VC, accelerator, or startup community, with an ability to represent IBM Ventures externally.
Experience conducting thematic research, writing insights, or developing thought leadership for technical or investment audiences.

The compensation range and benefits for this position are based on a full-time schedule for a full calendar year. The salary will vary depending on your job-related skills, experience and location. Pay increment and frequency of pay will be in accordance with employment classification and applicable laws. For part time roles, your compensation and benefits will be adjusted to reflect your hours. Benefits may be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year.
