Introduction

The IBM Infrastructure System Development Lab (ISDL) division is responsible for the design, development, testing, and lifecycle management of IBM’s infrastructure software and systems. ISDL plays a critical role in delivering enterprise-grade storage, compute, and data services, ensuring high levels of reliability, scalability, security, and performance for IBM customers worldwide. IBM Ceph within ISDL is IBM’s enterprise-grade, software-defined storage solution built on the open-source Ceph platform. It provides unified storage capabilities—block, file, and object—on a single, scalable architecture.

Your role and responsibilities

We are looking for a highly motivated QA/Test Developer with a strong understanding of the NFS protocol and hands-on experience testing features in distributed storage systems. The ideal candidate should be capable of independently validating new features, building and maintaining automation frameworks, and collaborating closely with development and CI teams to ensure high-quality enterprise storage releases. This role requires strong analytical skills, solid Linux fundamentals, and the ability to debug complex distributed system issues across multiple components.

Required technical and professional expertise
  • Independently validate new features and enhancements in Ceph NFS with a strong understanding of NFS v3 and v4. x protocols.

  • Perform functional, regression, and stability testing across CephFS, NFS-Ganesha, and HA deployments.

  • Understand and test distributed storage architectures, including MON, OSD, MDS, and RADOS.

  • Design and maintain Python-based automation frameworks.

  • Integrate and execute test suites within CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins).

  • Validate failover, recovery, upgrades, and node/network failures.

  • Perform debugging using Ceph, Ganesha, and client-side logs.

  • Report defects with clear reproduction steps and analysis.

  • Collaborate with development, CI, and release teams.

  • ROLE EXPECTATIONS

    • Own feature testing from design review to release sign-off.

    • Improve automation coverage and test quality.

    • Troubleshoot and debug test failures and protocol anomalies, working closely with development teams.

    • Ensure enterprise-grade reliability of Ceph NFS features.

    • Mentor junior engineers and be a self-driven team player.

Preferred technical and professional experience
  • Strong understanding of NFS v3 and v4/v4.1 protocols.

  • Hands-on experience with distributed storage systems, preferably Ceph.

  • Experience working with HA setups and solutions.

  • Familiarity with Kerberos, Active Directory, and authentication integration for NFS.

  • Proficiency in Python automation (Pytest or similar).

  • Basic CI/CD and Jenkins knowledge.

  • Strong Linux fundamentals and troubleshooting skills.

  • Experience with Git-based workflows.

  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and own features end-to-end

  • Nice to have: HAProxy, TLS, performance testing, and Cephadm orchestrator knowledge.
