Introduction

The IBM CIO Network Engineering organization are seeking an experienced and highly skilled DDI Engineer to join our dynamic program team as we look to modernize DDI, DNS and DHCP services for the IBM corporation.

The candidate will focus on helping to develop and roll-out a modernized DDI service landscape, based on software components, automated provisioning and cloud services. This includes running a global Anycast network for recursive DNS, as well as a globally distributed, and transition to cloud-based, authoritative DNS services.

Along this modernization of DNS, we’re looking for a candidate to also help transform IPAM and DHCP into modern, software -based services, integrated with the surrounding orchestration and provisioning in our CIO network environment.

This senior engineering position will be responsible for driving pre-prod testing, designing enhanced troubleshooting, developing pragmatic validation and test cases, while establishing governance and workflows for DDI process. You will be joining a highly motivated and talented team of professionals located around the globe.

Your role and responsibilities

· Define and establish a modern, automated tooling landscape for IBM’s own DDI services.

· Help develop, establish & run applications which augment and integrate DNS environment into other network and hosting environments.

· Define and measure metrics for availability, uptime, performance, and other key health parameters. Establish pro-active alerting and tools to augment troubleshooting.

· Work with other tooling, hosting & server provisioning teams to establish functional processes covering the needs for our corporate DDI landscape.

· Active contribution in establishing CI/CD pipelines, using GitHub Actions, to run our tooling.

· Own workflow and processes in Service Now, developing integrations into other tooling.

· Define and implement service standards and practices that align IT services with the needs of the business. Define and monitor adherence to SLA and industry best practices.

· Create, maintain, implement, and test appropriate contingency plans.

· Define key management reports required to validate global compliance with architecture, operations, and security standards, and identify automated ways of producing these reports.

Required technical and professional expertise
  • Strong DNS, DHCP & IPAM administration skills
  • Mastered DNS zone file management
  • BGP Anycast configuration and troubleshooting
  • DNS Security (secure forwarding, DNSsec concepts, signing key management)
  • DDoS protection, DNS filtering and DNS load-balancing
  • Expert DHCP configuration, support and troubleshooting

Preferred technical and professional experience
  • Traffic steering principles. i.e. NS1 filter chain configuration and troubleshooting
  • PowerDNS software suite (Auth, Recursor, DNSdist)
  • Infoblox NIOS skills (INE or equivalent)
  • Strong KEA DHCP skills, ideally paired with experience in Stork
  • Practical Netbox experience, integrating IPAM database into infrastructure mgmt
  • GitHub code handling + GitHub actions CI/CD pipelines
  • Container experience, deployments via helm-charts
  • Security & compliance processes for running a DDI environment
