Introduction

About IBM Technology Expert Labs

IBM Technology Expert Labs is IBM’s premium technology services organisation. Expert Labs consultants work directly with clients to design, implement, and optimise IBM technologies in real-world environments.

Unlike traditional support roles, Expert Labs focuses on:

  • Hands-on delivery
  • Deep technical expertise
  • Close collaboration with clients and IBM product teams
  • Expert Labs consultants are trusted advisors who help clients get the most value from IBM platforms — from initial design through to stable, long-term operation — while continuously building their own technical and consulting skills.

Joining IBM Technology Expert Labs means working directly with clients to deliver IBM technology that runs some of the world’s most critical systems. This graduate role is designed to build broad capability across the IBM Z platform — combining hardware, operating system, and core infrastructure software — while developing strong consulting and delivery skills.

This is a growth role for people who learn fast, like solving real problems, and want a career path that doesn’t lock them into one narrow specialty.

Your role and responsibilities

You’ll join client delivery teams and learn how end-to-end IBM Z environments are designed, implemented, and operated. You’ll work alongside experienced consultants and progressively take ownership of tasks across the platform.

You will:

  • Support delivery of IBM Z client engagements spanning hardware, z/OS, and platform services
  • Assist with installation, configuration, upgrades, and health checks under guidance
  • Learn how IBM Z systems are designed (capacity, logical partitions, availability, performance)
  • Help with documentation, run books, implementation plans, and post-engagement reporting
  • Participate in troubleshooting activities and learn structured problem-solving methods
  • Build confidence presenting findings and communicating clearly with clients and internal teams
  • Rotate across related areas (e.g., platform, availability, storage, resiliency) to build breadth

What You’ll Learn (and Be Supported to Learn)

Over time you’ll build skills across areas such as:

  • IBM Z platform fundamentals and architecture concepts
  • z/OS basics and common operational tools
  • Safe delivery practices in live production environments
  • High availability, backup, replication, and recovery concepts
  • Consulting skills: client communication, delivery planning, and stakeholder management

Note: No prior IBM Z experience is required. Curiosity, discipline, and the ability to learn quickly matter most.
