Introduction

We are seeking an experienced Azure API Management (APIM) Developer with strong expertise in designing, securing, and managing enterprise-grade APIs on the Microsoft Azure platform. The ideal candidate excels in building scalable API solutions, implementing APIM policies, integrating with Azure services, and automating deployments using modern DevOps practices.

In this role, you'll work in one of our IBM Consulting Client Innovation Centers (Delivery Centers), where we deliver deep technical and industry expertise to a wide range of public and private sector clients around the world. Our delivery centers offer our clients locally based skills and technical expertise to drive innovation and adoption of new technology.

Your role and responsibilities

As an Azure Cloud Full Stack Application Developer, you will work in a modern cloud-native environment, building solutions around Azure Native services, microservices-based modular designs, and API-driven microservices. You will collaborate with teams to deliver scalable and resilient backend microservices and rich UI applications using SPA or microfrontends. Your primary responsibilities will include: • Develop Scalable Microservices: Design and develop scalable and resilient backend microservices based on 12-factor principles, bounded context of the business domain, and expose functionality via API and event interfaces. • Build Rich UI Applications: Develop rich UI applications using ReactJS or Angular, with a focus on Single Page Applications (SPA) or microfrontends. • Implement Event-Driven Architectures: Develop event-driven applications using Kafka, Zookeeper, and Azure Integration services like Azure Logic apps, Services Bus, Event Grid, and APIM. • Manage Azure Services: Run and manage services on Azure, including PaaS, content delivery networks, routing services, databases, and storage. • Implement DevSecOps Practices: Use Azure DevOps, GitHub, and Azure CI to implement continuous integration and delivery, and develop infrastructure as code using Terraform and ARM Templates.

Required education

Bachelor's Degree

Required technical and professional expertise

Strong experience with Azure API Management (APIM).
Hands-on expertise in APIM policy creation, including inbound, outbound, and backend policies.
Proficiency in Terraform or Azure ApiOps for automation and Infrastructure-as-Code.
Strong understanding of API security models (OAuth2, JWT, Azure AD, Managed identities).
Experience with Azure services such as Azure Functions, Logic Apps, App Services, and Key Vault.
Solid skills in request/response transformation (XML/JSON), API versioning, and caching.
Understanding of API performance tuning, throttling, load handling, and monitoring.

Preferred technical and professional experience

Experience with DevOps pipelines (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).
Knowledge of CI/CD for API gateway deployments.
Familiarity with RESTful and SOAP service integration.
Understanding of network concepts: VNets, private endpoints, API gateways, and firewalls.
Exposure to microservices architecture and containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
