Introduction

The SAP AFC consultant is responsible for translating the client's closing processes into the logic and structure of the AFC tool.
Process Design and Mapping: Analyze the current accounting closing process (as-is).
Identify bottlenecks, manual tasks, and dependencies.
Design the optimized to-be process in AFC.

In this role, you'll work in one of our IBM Consulting Client Innovation Centers (Delivery Centers), where we deliver deep technical and industry expertise to a wide range of public and private sector clients around the world. Our delivery centers offer our clients locally based skills and technical expertise to drive innovation and adoption of new technology.

Your role and responsibilities

This role is responsible for implementing and configuring SAP HANA FIN FI solutions for clients and serves as an expert working directly with customers to deliver high-quality results and be trusted business advice with deep understanding of and/or hands-on experience in the system. Focuses on understanding and analyzing business requirements, designing and configuring solutions, and ensuring successful project delivery. Utilizes business and industry knowledge, business processes and techno-functional solution expertise to effectively integrate packaged technology solutions with the goal of achieving client expectations.

1. Hands‑On AFC Configuration Experience

Ability to configure AFC task lists, task dependencies, preconditions, durations, scheduling, automated tasks, and team responsibilities.

Must have real experience configuring, not just testing.

2. Integration Knowledge Between AFC & S/4HANA / CFIN

Understands how AFC interacts with:

  • CFIN replication status
  • ACDOCA, BKPF/BSEG, CO tables
  • AIF or other validation checkpoints
  • Must be able to embed financial validation tasks into AFC.

3. Governance, Controls & Sign‑Off Framework Design

Can design month‑end governance processes, including:

  • Standardized checklists
  • Approval workflows
  • Escalation paths
  • Task monitoring and exception handling
  • Audit‑ready documentation

4. Client facing/workshop experience

Preferred technical and professional experience

Strong understanding of financial closing processes (month-end, quarter-end, year-end).
Experience configuring and supporting closing tasks, templates, and workflows within AFC or similar tools (e.g., Closing Cockpit).
Good knowledge of SAP S/4HANA Finance modules (FI/CO) and their integration points.
