Introduction

We are looking for an Experienced Test Engineer with a strong background in quality assurance and test management, ideally within the energy or utilities sector. You’ll lead testing efforts across complex systems, with a particular focus on the metering chain, from smart meters to Meter Data Management (MDM) systems used by Distribution System Operators (DSOs).

This role requires both strategic oversight and hands-on involvement. We value flexibility, so you’ll also contribute to other testing-related activities, including manual testing and process improvement.

In this role, you'll work in one of our IBM Consulting Client Innovation Centers (Delivery Centers), where we deliver deep technical and industry expertise to a wide range of public and private sector clients around the world. Our delivery centers offer our clients locally based skills and technical expertise to drive innovation and adoption of new technology.

Your role and responsibilities

As a Senior Test Engineer, you will:

• Develop comprehensive test requirements, scenarios, and cases from various sources including use cases and specifications, ensuring full traceability to business and technical requirements.
• Define and manage test environments and data needs across multiple testing phases, including preparation activities such as system setup, hardware provisioning, and data configuration.
• Plan and coordinate test execution activities, including environment booking, test scheduling, and collaboration with parallel testing efforts.
• Lead day-to-day test execution, working closely with product owners, developers, testers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth delivery.
• Execute tests, monitor results in real-time, report outcomes, and manage defect resolution processes actively.
• Analyze test coverage and execution outcomes to identify opportunities for automation and cross-functional testing improvements.
• Collaborate across products and teams to create integrated test plans and support broader testing initiatives where needed.
• Facilitate stakeholder alignment and approval on testing scope, test cases, and overall quality strategy.

Required education

Bachelor's Degree

Required technical and professional expertise

• Proven experience in test management and quality assurance
• Strong understanding of the metering chain, from smart meters to MDM systems
• Familiarity with testing tools and frameworks (e.g., JIRA, TestRail, Selenium)
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Ability to lead teams and drive testing initiatives
• Flexible and growth-oriented mindset
• Fluent in both English and Dutch (written & spoken)

Preferred technical and professional experience

• Knowledge of digital meters and Head-End Systems (HES)
• Experience working with DSOs or in the energy/utilities sector
• Familiarity with agile methodologies
• Experience with Test automation
