Introduction

As an IBM zTools team member, you will use the latest tools and technologies available to deliver state-of-the-art software solutions for the zTools migration program. You will be responsible for ensuring that software components are expertly designed, tested, debugged, verified, and ready for integration into IBM's zTools software suite, helping organizations improve their business outcomes in the global marketplace.

This role executes the tasks required to develop or test the zTools product portfolio to ensure it functions according to specifications and client requirements and meets the business needs. Development and testing activities cover all aspects of the product/system including function/component, system, performance and regression.

Successful candidates will have a strong desire to work through all phases of the software development lifecycle. A foundational understanding of software development principles and testing methodologies such as the Agile Software Development Lifecycle, with a high degree of adaptability, drive, and willingness to accept new challenges is a must.

Your role and responsibilities

As a z/OS Systems Programmer, you'll be responsible for installing, maintaining, and customising IBM mainframe operating systems, specifically z/OS and USS on z. You will also be responsible for installing, customising and maintaining IBM z software, and provisioning accesses for individual users. Your expertise will ensure the smooth operation of the IBM z system and its associated software,Key Responsibilities:

Install, upgrade, and maintain z/OS systems for IBM operating systems
Install and configure software on IBM z/OS and USS, including system software like SMP/E as well as IBM’s modernisation products
Provision and manage user accesses to z/OS and associated software using products like RACF

- Collaborate with application programmers to resolve system-related issues

Familiarity with JCL, REXX/CLIST and shell scripting

- Provide 24/7 support for critical system issues

Required technical and professional expertise

- Experience:
- 5-10 years of experience as a z/OS System Programmer
- Proven track record of maintaining and customizing z/OS systems

-- Technical Skills:
- z/OS operating system expertise
- Strong knowledge of JCL, ISPF, REXX, CLIST, SMP/E and shell scripting
- Hands-on experience with Unix System Services on z/OS
- Familiarity with z/OS utilities, such as TSO/E
- Problem-Solving Skills:
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex system issues
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Collaboration:
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams, including application programmers and system administrators

Preferred technical and professional experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with IBM mainframe products, such as Db2, CICS, and IMS
Knowledge of security management and compliance, including IBM products like RACF
Familiarity with authentication mechanisms and transport security protocols such as AT-TLS, SSL, pass tickets, etc
Familiarity with automation tools and scripting languages
Strong understanding of mainframe performance tuning and optimization
