Your role and responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Operations, this role is responsible for the smooth running of a number of Data Centers throughout Europe, ensuring they're well organized and staffed, meet departmental goals and abide by the standards set by IBM Cloud. The Senior Operations Manager works closely together with fellow Senior Managers with a number of Site Managers reporting to him/her.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage upwards of 5 datacenters, observing site performance, and serving as an escalation point for issues requiring escalations
  • Oversee regional datacenter operations to drive efficiency improvements to support operational integrity
  • Manage regional assets by enforcing established policy and procedures and fulfilling audits to assure proper handling, sufficient inventory thresholds, and loss prevention
  • Manage scheduling to cover 24/7 operations and including interviewing and hiring Site Managers
  • Manage frontline and direct report performance and create/ implement training, coaching, and overall technical development
  • Assist in the dissemination of information to employees via team meetings by actively contributing an agenda of items and effectively conveying that agenda, to meeting participants
  • Work closely with local facility engineering staff to ensure all infrastructure systems are operating within established tolerances, proactively maintained, and adequately serviced when necessary
  • Manage multiple projects relating to datacenter operations from planning to execution
  • Foster functional inter-departmental relationships

Key areas of responsibility:

    • Provide ongoing support to client deployments and incident management
    • Ensure effective and efficient deployment of IBM Cloud’s infrastructure platform
    • Operate and improve Disaster Recovery and contingency plans, policies, and procedures, as well as overseeing testing of those procedures
    • Asset Management
    • Calculate metrics to analyze the performance of the Site Managers
Required education

Bachelor's Degree
Required technical and professional expertise
  • 3-5 years of experience managing data centers and network infrastructure
  • Proven knowledge of hardware concepts and component installation
  • Understanding of facility management and datacenter infrastructure
  • Customer focused attitude with previous customer service experience
  • Technical knowledge of Linux/Unix, Windows, Servers, Virtual Machines (VMs), Firewalls, Switches, Routers, web hosting control panels (Ensim, cPanel/WebHost Manager (WHM), Plesk, and Helm)
  • Proven communication and leadership skills
  • Proven analytics skills to drive measurements and improvements

Preferred technical and professional experience
  • Creativity and intellectual curiosity to constantly improve the data center operations
  • Certifications a plus: Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), Red Hat Certified Technician (RHCT), Linux+, Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), etc
  • Be able to motivate and lead a team
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

The compensation range and benefits for this position are based on a full-time schedule for a full calendar year. The salary will vary depending on your job-related skills, experience and location. Pay increment and frequency of pay will be in accordance with employment classification and applicable laws. For part time roles, your compensation and benefits will be adjusted to reflect your hours. Benefits may be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year.

This position is eligible for participation in an IBM Sales Incentive plan. Actual incentive opportunity will be based on performance and the eligible Target Incentive, as addressed in the applicable plan, all of which is subject to change. The compensation range listed for this position is the IBM Reference Salary that is used when you are not actively participating in a sales plan. Your actual base pay plus incentive opportunity will be determined by the Incentive Plan assigned to you.
