As the Database Specialist for z/OS, this position is responsible for enabling a wide variety of IBM, Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and Global System Integrators (GSIs) technical development and testing activities involving database such as Db2, IMS, PostgreSQL and others for z/OS and related products. Primary responsibility will be implementing and managing database instances for z/OS and how ISVs/GSIs can maximize the benefit their solutions derive for z/OS and related products. This role also requires teaming with other members of the IBM Z ISV Center to ensure synergy between database for z/OS and the rest of the z/OS and Z platform offerings as part of ISVs/GSIs solutions. The expected tasks and activities include, but are not limited to product installation, operation, planning, maintenance, ISVs/GSIs partners’ system product support, developing intellectual capital, workshops, demos and other.

Job Duties:

• Set up and configure internal and external database instances (Oracle, DB2 UDB, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB)
• Advise IBM and ISVs/GSIs teams on solutions that include databases for z/OS and related products.
• Assisting the Technical Lead with soliciting, analyzing, and understanding customers’ business requirements and implementing assigned tasks on a timely basis.
• Work with more experienced team members and/or management, installing and supporting the upgrade of ISVs/GSIs’ base database products including testing of applications; supporting the recommendations made to the partners regarding potential impacts; working with team members to schedule and implement installs and maintenance around the needs of business; and assisting with problem determination and resolution.
• Creating personal development plans and maintaining acquired level of knowledge across key skills and technologies used in z/OS, databases and related products.

About the Team

IBM Z ISV Center team provides infrastructure and platform as a service offerings to global ISVs/GSIs and the technical community. We have Z hardware and software Subject Matter Experts that collaborate with IBM Development and IBM Z partners to provide leading edge solutions on IBM Z and LinuxONE for clients.

Required technical and professional expertise

• 2-3 years of experience in setup and configuration of database instances (e.g. Oracle, DB2 UDB, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB)
• Proven effective communication skills, teamwork
• Highly self-motivated and resourceful, Aptitude to learn and apply knowledge quickly
• Fluent in English
• Readiness to work flexible hours, if necessary
• Client-focused, strong commitment to customer service

Preferred technical and professional experience

• Working knowledge of IBM Z, IBM LinuxONE, and databases
• Experience creating a data sharing environment
• Able to effectively partner, collaborate, and influence others in a highly matrixed organization on a cross-functional team to achieve goals
• Present technical topics to customers in variety of settings, including meetings, conferences, face to face, and virtual
• Self-motivated and action-oriented, able to think and work strategically, able to plan, prioritize and work with a complex schedule of events and activities in a fluid environment.
