Source code is stored in a Github repository and accessed / managed in the Visual Studio code development platform. In-house tools and processes have been developed to facilitate code compiles and library sessions.
Your role and responsibilities
Backend Developer – System Assurance Verification
High level summary: Ability to create/write architecture verification software for IBM Z systems. Specifically, within the System Assurance Kernel (SAK) team.
Job will entail – Design, Code, Test and Debug. Collaborate with teams of development & test engineers, programmers and technicians.
SAK is comprised of an operating system, and an ever-growing suite of architecture verification and stress test programs. SAK has the flexibility to be used to locate and debug hardware and firmware issues on IBM Z servers. SAK provides a robust framework for verification of both the processor and input/output architectures.

The SAK team works in a fast-paced environment. We are working on bleeding edge technology, typically starting two years before the product is announced. Our tooling is used starting in simulation and continues through initial hardware bring-up testing and ending with customer delivery. SAK plays a key role in every phase of design, test, and delivery.

Required technical and professional expertise
- The candidate must possess the ability to quickly understand and utilize multiple programming languages. They must also have the interest and ability to learn to read IBM Z architecture and then to turn that into a test program that is able to verify the new functions.
- The job role also requires excellent communication skills, because we work across the globe with a variety of development & test engineers, program management teams, managers, and executives. Clear and frequent responses will be required from the candidate.
- Experience in C or C++, Python or Java.
Preferred technical and professional experience
- A desire to eventually lead would be of excellent value to the team. This would begin once the programmer is proficient in the role and has knowledge of their area and how the overall SAK team works. Leadership tasks would start small and progressively get broader in scope as the candidate's career advances.
