As a software developer in the Db2 for z/OS team, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and supporting the Db2 product on the z/OS platform. This role involves both new feature development and advanced technical support activities, particularly addressing complex customer-reported issues that require deep system-level expertise.
You will reproduce defects in controlled test environments, analyze system abends and dumps, and develop high-quality fixes (APARs). You will also design, implement, and test new enhancements to meet evolving client requirements. As part of your responsibilities, you will collaborate with test teams to ensure correctness, perform unit testing, and contribute to product documentation. You are expected to use your knowledge of PL/X, REXX, Assembler, and Java to diagnose and resolve deep-seated product issues.
In addition to core Db2 development, you will be expected to guide discussions on architectural improvements and automation, help drive quality through test tooling, and support client success by resolving complex technical problems. Your contributions will strengthen IBM’s ability to deliver secure, high-performing, and resilient mainframe solutions for enterprise clients.
Minimum 5 years of relevant software development experience
Experience in debugging complex system-level issues and resolving customer defects
Programming proficiency in PL/X, REXX, Assembler, Java, and JCL
Strong debugging and dump reading skills on z/OS
Knowledge of RDBMS internals, SQL optimization, and Db2 architecture
Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies
Experience with GitHub, Jenkins, and test automation frameworks
Ability to write functional test cases and automate regression testing
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across geographies
IBM Certified: Db2 for z/OS Administrator or Developer
Experience supporting large-scale enterprise clients in regulated industries
Deep understanding of Db2 for z/OS diagnostic tools and traces
Familiarity with enterprise observability and AIOps tools on Z
Proven ability to design resilient code changes and reduce customer MTTR (Mean Time to Resolution)
Prior experience with IBM Japan or global mainframe product teams a plus
