Supporting transparency through digital evidence: Join the RCMP’s Body-Worn Camera team! The RCMP is committed to strengthening trust with the communities it serves by enhancing transparency in police interactions. Body-worn cameras (BWC) are now deployed to frontline officers across Canada, providing an objective and independent record of interactions with the public. This initiative supports accountability, improves evidence gathering, and helps resolve public complaints more efficiently. In Nova Scotia, a dedicated Divisional Body-Worn Camera team has been established to support this initiative at the local level and manage the growing volume and complexity of digital evidence generated through BWC use. The team plays a critical role in the intake, review, and redaction of video footage in response to access requests, disclosures, and operational requirements. In addition to digital evidence processing, the team supports deployment and onboarding of BWC and Digital Evidence Management System (DEMS) users across the Division, provides front-line user support and training, and contributes to ongoing system administration. The team also works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, participates in national communities of practice, and supports the development of procedures and processes to ensure policy compliance.Through this work, the team ensures that sensitive information is carefully protected while maintaining transparency. This function directly supports the RCMP’s commitment to accountability and openness—contributing to public trust and the integrity of RCMP operations across Nova Scotia.
