About the position

Duties
Completes semi-skilled and general maintenance, repair, installation, adjustment, minor construction, and preventative maintenance work on facilities, structures, equipment, infrastructure, utilities, and other Field Unit assets.Responds to deficiencies identified through inspections, Maximo work orders, maintenance plans, operational requests, asset condition assessments, and code-compliance follow-up.
Inspects, checks, tests, and monitors assets within the scope of the position; identifies visible deficiencies, anomalies, damage, deterioration, unsafe conditions, or maintenance needs; records findings; and reports issues requiring escalation.Develops basic work plans, identifies materials, estimates time and cost requirements, prepares or supports small purchases, maintains logs and records, and updates work status in Maximo or other approved systems.Supports small maintenance contracts and field activities by preparing sites, coordinating access, assisting with contractor support, documenting deficiencies, confirming work completion, and supporting closeout.
Works with the Facilities and Fleet team, trades staff, operations staff, contractors, consultants, and other Field Unit staff to support timely completion of maintenance and deficiency correction work.
Work environment
The Maintenance Worker III will complete semi-skilled and general maintenance, repair, installation, construction, and preventative maintenance activities to support the Facilities and Fleet Function.The position will respond to deficiencies identified by the Facilities and Fleet function. Typical work may include general repairs to facilities, structures, site assets, hardware, doors, shelving, signage, fencing, decking, basic concrete or masonry elements, finishes, fixtures, small equipment, and other assets where the work falls within the scope of a semi-skilled maintenance position.The position will also assist with basic inspections and checks by identifying visible deficiencies, damage, wear, unsafe conditions, or anomalies; taking measurements or readings; recording findings; estimating labor and materials; and reporting issues requiring escalation.
Intent of the process
The immediate intent is to staff one GL-MAN-05 Maintenance Worker III — Facilities and Fleet Maintenance Support position in Jasper, Alberta until March 31, 2027. A list of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures, language requirements, security requirements and/or work locations within Parks Canada.

Operational Requirements

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and personal protective equipment.
• Willingness and ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, carrying, bending, kneeling, climbing, stretching, loading tools and materials, and working from ladders or scaffolds.
• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays.
• Willingness and ability to work outdoors, around maintenance/construction activities, in inclement weather and on uneven terrain while using required personal protective equipment.
• Willingness to take and maintain training, certifications or operator requirements necessary to safely access sites and perform assigned duties.
• Willingness to undergo pre-placement and periodic medical evaluations
• Willing and able to be exposed to: noxious odours from car fumes, dust, cleaning products, and wet conditions
• Willingness and ability to comply with Parks Canada occupational health and safety requirements.

A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience related to semi-skilled maintenance, repair, construction, installation, or facility maintenance work.

EXPERIENCE:EX1: Experience performing semi-skilled or general maintenance, repair, installation, construction, or building maintenance work on facilities, structures, equipment, or infrastructure.EX2: Experience using and maintaining a variety of hand tools, power tools, equipment, materials, and products used in maintenance and repair work.EX3: Experience identifying maintenance issues, deficiencies, damage, wear, unsafe conditions, or repair needs, and determining when issues need to be escalated to a supervisor, certified tradesperson, mechanic, contractor, consultant, or other specialist.EX4: Experience estimating materials, quantities, time, and basic costs for maintenance or repair work, and maintaining work records, logs, or service documentation.EX5: Experience working safely in maintenance, construction, operational, outdoor, or field environments.

K1: Knowledge of general and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, installation, and minor construction methods used to maintain facilities, structures, equipment, infrastructure, utilities, and related assets.K2: Knowledge of safe work practices, occupational health and safety requirements, PPE use, hazard identification, and safe operation of hand tools, power tools, ladders, scaffolds, and small equipment.K3: Knowledge of common building and site components, such as doors, hardware, finishes, signage, fencing, decking, platforms, shelving, fixtures, basic concrete or masonry elements, and general facility components.K4: Knowledge of how to identify deficiencies, assess practical repair needs, document findings, and recognize when work must be escalated because it requires a licensed trade, mechanic, contractor, consultant, or regulated professional.
