Duties
As an IS-05 you would be responsible for (but not limited to):
•Leading a team of communicators and provide strategic communications plans, products and advice to senior managers, executives and clients
• Manage a portfolio of clients
• Providing leadership in crisis and emergency communications by connecting with the appropriate internal and external stakeholders and developing and maintaining partnershipsThe expectation for this position is to work full time in the Edmonton HQ office (No Hybrid, Telework, or Compressed schedules).
Work environment
The RCMP Federal Policing units are responsible for protecting Canada, its people, and its interests from domestic and international criminal threats, including risks to national security, serious organized crime, border integrity, financial crime and cybercrime. A strategic communications team has been created to directly support the Federal Policing Northwest Region which includes: Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nunavut and Northwest Territories.The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is looking for talented and skilled individuals to join our dynamic Federal Policing team. Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to staff a position on a indeterminate basis in Edmonton, Alberta, and create a pool of qualified candidates. The pool of qualified candidates may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures (indeterminate, term, deployment, acting, assignment and secondment) in Winnipeg, Manitoba.Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

If a candidate is selected for a specified period (including term, acting, or assignment/secondment) appointment, they will remain in the pool for future offers
Conditions of employment
RCMP Enhanced Reliability Status with Top Secret Security ClearanceIn accordance with the Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS) Directive on Security Screening, effective January 6, 2025, Canadian citizenship is a requirement for a Top Secret clearance. • Must work overtime on short notice from time to time.
• Must be on call during evenings, weekends and on public holidays from time to time.
• Must carry and monitor a mobile communications device outside of work hours when required.
• Willingness and ability to travel for work purposes, using various modes of transportation throughout the Northwest Region which includes: Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nunavut, Northwest Territories .
• Willingness and ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Willingness and ability to work in a busy police environment, including exposure to unsettling and/or graphic material.

Education:
A degree* from a recognized post-secondary institution or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience**.Notes:

• A high school diploma with minimum 5 years of work experience in communications or;
• A college diploma in the field of communications with minimum 3 years of work experience in communications.

Experience:
• Experience providing complex and strategic* communications advice to senior management** (or higher).

• Experience building and maintaining partnerships with various stakeholders.* "Complex and strategic communication" refers to products or projects that possess at least four (4) of the following attributes:

• Having the potential for significant media coverage: Likely to attract considerable attention from the media (regional, provincial or national).**Senior management is defined as a manager who supervises staff, assigns tasks, oversees workload and completes performance assessments for employees for a team of two employees or more. For candidates applying from within the Government of Canada, we consider senior management to be persons occupying level IS-05 and IS-06 positions. For RCMP police officers/regular members, this is the equivalent of one or two levels under the rank of Superintendent.*** A wide variety of communications products refers to a minimum of four (4) products such as news releases, media advisories, media lines, internal messages for employees, speeches, social media content or communication plans for internal and/or external partners such as federal organizations, central agencies, stakeholders, non- governmental organizations, other orders of government, or industry.
