About the position

Duties
Parks Canada is looking to staff multiple positions for the Aquatic Invasive Species programs in the Mountain National parks. Aquatic invasive species are a threat to the environment and recreational activities. For more information on the program, please visit: https://parks.cYanada.ca/pn-np/mtn/eaux-waters You will be responsible for permitting, education and compliance for the Aquatic Invasive Species prevention program through:
• Operating the self-certification program;
• Educating visitors on Clean, Drain, Dry practices and aquatic invasive species prevention regulations in the mountain national parks;
• Conducting inspections on watercraft and gear;
• Checking compliance with aquatic invasive species regulations at popular lakes and rivers;
• Collecting, recording, and entering data;
• Assisting with equipment inventories and maintenance logs;
• Completing monitoring activities for aquatic invasive species using established protocols, including data and sample management;
• Collecting field samples to contribute to research on aquatic invasive species;
• Preparing, setting-up, calibrating, operating, maintaining and decontaminating equipment before and after use to ensure all equipment is ready and in good condition for each field day.

Intent of the process
The results of this process will be used to fill multiple term positions of 3 to 6 months duration, between May and November 2026 and may be used in the future to fill permanent or temporary vacancies that may arise at the Resource Management Technician, EG 01 group and level in the Lake Louise, Yoho & Kootenay Field Unit with full or part-time hours for various tenures, such as: Indeterminate, Term, Acting Assignment or Assignment at level, depending on status of the selected candidate.

Operational Requirements

• Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment
• Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation
• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial holidays, when required
• Willingness to set-up, take-down and move equipment (including large and heavy equipment, tables and tents)

EXPERIENCE
• Experience providing education and/or compliance messages to the public, addressing visitor questions, and delivering quality customer service
• Experience following protocols and/or procedures
• Experience preparing for and completing safe, organized, and effective field work, including data collection, data management, sample organization and sample storage

KNOWLEDGE
• Knowledge of aquatic invasive species and prevention techniques
• Knowledge of methods and procedures for scientific testing and data/sample collection
ABILITIES
• Ability to work outdoors for prolonged periods in a variety of weather conditions
• Ability to communicate, listen to others, and relay information related to the importance of aquatic invasive species prevention and compliance with regulations.
• Ability to anticipate and detect incidents of unsafe or improper behavior, take action and find solutions, including professionally resolving conflict, where applicable.

• Possession or willingness to obtain a valid Wilderness First Aid with CPR certificate or equivalent
• Possession or willingness to obtain a valid Swiftwater Rescue certificate
• Possession or willingness to obtain a valid Backpack Electrofishing certificate
ASSET EXPERIENCE
• Experience driving large trucks and towing and reversing trailers in challenging environments, such as high-traffic areas
• Experience operating and/or maintaining biological sampling and mechanical equipment
