About the position
Duties
Stream 1: Regulatory Enforcement Officer The Importation and Audit Inspection Division is responsible for reviewing requests to import vehicles into Canada, and for conducting inspections and audits of small and medium-sized companies (less than 2,500 vehicles per year) involved in the manufacture or importation of vehicles in the Canadian market. The Division also monitors the importation of vehicles purchased at the retail level in the United States. Regulatory Enforcement Officers are front line employees who play an important role in reviewing importation requests, auditing small and mid-size vehicle manufacturers’ certification documentation, and conducting physical inspections of vehicles to determine compliance with regulatory requirements. They also perform technical analysis of compliance test packages, provide guidance and advice to client organizations, and respond to inquiries from the public. This position reports to Place de Ville in downtown, Ottawa, Ontario. The building is easily accessible by public transit and offers nearby parking options. The Lyon Station on Ottawa’s Light Rail Transit (LRT) system connects directly to Place de Ville through underground access. For more information on Transport Canada’s vehicle importation and audit inspection program, please consult the following web pages: https://tc.canada.ca/en/road-transportation/importing-vehicle Stream 2: Defect Complaint Analyst The Defect-related Information for Vehicles and Equipment (D.R.I.V.E.) division has the mandate to document, review and assess complaints relating to alleged safety defects in vehicles, tires and child car seats. When warranted, a defect investigation is initiated to further evaluate potential safety-related issues and risks. Defect investigations can influence safety recall campaigns or safety advisory publications. The defect complaint analysts are front line employees who play an important role in accurately documenting real world events, such as vehicle collisions or fires, potentially resulting from a manufacturing defect. Defect complaints are received via inbound calls, through an online web form, through email and through communications with first responders and vehicle fleets. Each defect complaint is reviewed to determine if it falls within the scope of Transport Canada’s safety mandate and then entered into a database. The defect complaint analysts must have a strong automotive background and excellent consumer relations skills. This position reports to our Motor Vehicle Safety Investigation Laboratory located in Gatineau, Québec. The laboratory is located near a major highway, 8 km from parliament hill and against traffic congestion. It is also near Trans-Canada nature trails and bike paths.
