Duties

This student position will provide technical support on the OERD land project. They may be involved in the following assignments during the work term:

1. Under supervision, the candidate will conduct research to develop biosensor for trace organics monitoring and contribute to the development of manuscript(s) for peer reviewed publication.
2. Carrying out bench scale water chemistry tests, by using basic and advanced analytical instruments (pH meter, auto-titrator, flash chromatography, gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry) and assisting with instrumental maintenance.
3. Documenting experimental methods and observations, and reporting results in the form of computer-generated spreadsheets.
4. Occasionally providing assistance with pilot-plant experiments.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in chemistry or some other science relevant to the position.

AND

Enrolled or willing to enroll in a Master's program at University of Alberta with a specialization in chemistry or a related field.

Degree equivalency

Experience
Experience working with environmental samples in the lab;
Experience operating basic and advanced analytical instruments;
Experience with data analysis and report writing.
Recent experience working on sensor development for environmental monitoring;

*Recent experience is defined as experience obtained within the past 12 months.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Experience working with oilfield brine;
Experience with organic synthesis;
Experience working in a pilot-plant facility.
