In the forest research officer position, you will perform a variety of research tasks related to wildfire and carbon-cycle interactions including:
• Developing research methodologies and sampling plans to assess forest stands impacted by wildfire
• Conducting field and laboratory research activities to collect data pertinent to understanding carbon cycling in forest ecosystems pre- and post- wildfire
• Analyzing and interpreting spatial data and data collected in the field
• Preparing reports, presentations and papers in support of scientific publications for internal and external use
• Consulting with a variety of stakeholders, including government agencies, to ensure applicability of results in fire management planning and carbon accounting
• Train, supervise, and coordinate field and laboratory work for students and staff

• Graduation with a degree in forestry or wood science from a recognized post-secondary institution or
• Graduation with a degree in a related science from a recognized post-secondary institution combined with acceptable experience.
Experience
· Planning, developing and conducting forest research studies
· Collecting and analyzing carbon or wildfire-related data
· Conducting field work
· Analyzing geospatial data
· Preparing scientific or technical documents (e.g., field/lab protocols, reports, peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts)
· Preparing and delivering information on forest research to various stakeholders through presentations, articles, or reports
English essential
