Reporting to the Regional Surface Directorate, the Regional Railway Inspector monitors and promotes regulatory compliance of infrastructure under the Railway Safety Act (the Act). The inspector also carries out education and awareness activities, audits, and law enforcement actions.
📊 Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and conduct regulatory inspections;
- Write inspection reports and follow up on corrective measures;
- Analyze trends in concerns, non-compliances, and railway incidents;
- Conduct education and outreach activities to provide information on programs, regulations, and compliance to railway company employees and other stakeholders;
- Handle complaints and inquiries related to railway transportation;
-Take enforcement actions to address serious violations of the Act, regulations, rules, and related standards.

🎓 EDUCATION
• High school diploma or an acceptable combination of studies, training, or relevant experience.
🧾 EXPERIENCE
• Significant experience* as a track inspector or supervisor** within a railway company, involved in the inspection and maintenance of railway tracks. Work experience may have been gained with a railway contractor or supplier.
• Experience in assessing the condition of railway tracks in accordance with North American standards.
*By "significant experience," we mean experience typically gained over a period of two (2) years.
** Person certified in accordance with Part I of the Rules Respecting Track Safety.

• Knowledge of the principles, practices and inspection related to railway track design and maintenance.

• Postsecondary diploma in a field related to engineering.

• Experience in a track supervision role within a railway in Canada.
• Significant experience*** in applying the Transport Canada Railway Safety Regulations.
• Experience in managing projects related to railway activities.
• Experience in risk assessment and trend or risk analysis.
• Experience in writing and presenting reports.
***By "significant experience," we mean diverse experience associated with carrying out a wide range of varied and complex activities typically gained over a period of two (2) years.

🛠️ OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Be able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
• Agree to and be able to work alone in remote locations.
• Agree to make physical efforts to climb onto railway structures or equipment, to board and disembark from them, sometimes in difficult-to-access areas with rough terrain, and be able to do so.
• Agree to and be able to travel within Quebec and across Canada as part of the duties.
• Agree to and be able to work overtime, including nights and weekends.
