The position of Director of Judges' Language Training is unique because of its clientele and its responsibilities within the judiciary.
The framework encourages autonomous work by a team of six experienced employees (three training coordinators, two program assistants and one assessor), to whom director lends a helping hand while supervising them: preparing and participating in immersion sessions, setting up contracts with hotels, establishing service agreements for teaching and developing materials, updating the curriculum, creating learning modules, controlling the quality of service provided by some fifty teachers and jurists, and developing and administering language assessments for candidates to the judiciary of Superior Courts and the Supreme Court of Canada.
These tasks are carried out in accordance with guidelines issued by the Office of the Commissioner.
FJA is part of the Core Public Administration and is not serviced by the Pay Centre. We have our own compensation team. FJA has approximately 70 employees. Our offices are located at 99 Metcalfe Street, in the heart of downtown Ottawa. The area is served by major bus routes and a light rail station, and employees have access in the building to amenities such as kitchens, showers, change rooms, secure bicycle storage. Parking is available nearby, at the employee's expense. Close to our building, you'll find many coffee shops, restaurants and other essential services.
You are expected to balance working remotely with being on-site for a minimum of 4 days per week.
The immediate intent of this selection process is to staff one (1) indeterminate position in Ottawa, Ontario.
A fully or partially assessed pool may be created and may be used to staff identical or similar positions at the same - or equivalent - group and level, with various linguistic requirements, tenures and security clearance within the Office of the Commissioner for Federal Judicial Affairs Canada.

EDUCATION
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution education, language teaching, linguistics, literature, or a specialization relevant to the position.
EXPERIENCE:
EX1 Experience in managing human resources.
EX2 Experience in managing financial resources.
EX3 Experience in overseeing the coordination of the delivery of language training in French or English.
EXPERIENCE:
AE1: Experience in managing the development of language learning materials and proficiency assessment tools.
