Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff an indeterminate and determinate position in Hamilton, Ontario.

A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions within Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), various language requirements, various security requirements, various conditions of employment and for various locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education
All streams:
Successful completion of a 3-year postsecondary program in mechanical engineering technology or equivalent combination of training and experience in quality control, metallurgy and non-destructive testing (NDT).

Degree equivalency

Occupational Certification
Stream A (EG-05):
Certified by NRCan under the Canadian Standards Board Standard CAN/CGSB-48.9712 to level 2 or higher in at least two methods/techniques of NDT.

Stream B (EG-06):
Certified by NRCan under the Canadian Standards Board Standard CAN/CGSB-48.9712 to level 2 or higher in at least three methods/techniques of NDT; and to level 3 in at least two methods/techniques of NDT; or equivalent qualifications of examiner/auditor to at least two methods/techniques of NDT.

Experience
All streams:
1. Experience in the hands-on application of non-destructive testing (NDT).
2. Experience writing technical procedures.
3. Experience organizing and performing the technical portions of inspection programs.
4. Experience planning, organizing and carrying out administrative and operational activities.

Occupational Certification
Certified by NRCan under the Canadian Standards Board Standard CAN/CGSB-48.9712 to level 2 or higher in additional methods of NDT. (in addition to the certifications counted in Essential Qualifications).

Asset Experience
1. Experience in developing and grading examinations.
2. Experience with word processing, spread sheets and database software.
3. Experience performing job cost analysis and establishing and implementing fees for service.

All streams:
1. Knowledge of the principles of non-destructive testing.
2. Knowledge of the industrial practices of non-destructive testing.
3. Knowledge of physical metallurgy.
4. Knowledge of metal processing and fabrication methods.
5. Knowledge of the Canadian National NDT Standard CAN/CGSB-48.9712.
6. Knowledge of incorporating health and safety procedures in work processes.

Abilities
All streams:
1. Ability to calibrate, operate and maintain NDT equipment.
2. Ability to work as part of a team.
3. Ability to work independently with little direct supervision.
4. Ability to communicate orally, in English.
5. Ability to communicate in writing, in English.

Asset Knowledge
1. Knowledge of the NRCan national system for certification of NDT personnel.
2. Knowledge of the preparation of NDT technical instructions.
3. Knowledge of advanced NDT techniques. (such as Phase-Array Ultrasonic Testing, Time of Flight Diffraction, Eddy Current testing Arrays, etc.).

Operational Requirements:
1. Willingness and ability to travel, as required.
2. Willingness and ability to work overtime, as required.
