The Team Leader, Aerospace Design and CAD Manager, directs, supervises, and participates in all activities of the design office. The design office as part of the engineering team prepares designs and documentation of complex aircraft structures, assemblies, and systems from concept to detail design, testing, production, and in service support to meet client and airworthiness certification requirements, for a wide variety fixed and rotary wing aircraft. The incumbent performs a wide variety of roles supporting internal government clients:
• Develop and complete designs, CAD drawings, illustrations, and data to support an operational fleet aircraft including data for Supplemental Type Certificates and Repair Design Approvals.
• Manage the CAD systems software, drawing configuration control, and all the design and drawing processes used by the team.
• Complete structural repairs and modifications for metallic and composite structures, for both Transport Category aircraft and light aircraft.
• Aircraft modifications, including customized equipment and systems for a wide variety of different operational requirements.
The position is based in the ASD Headquarters at Ottawa International Airport Hangar T-58. Free parking is available. If you are not presently located in the National Capital Region, you will be required to relocate to Ottawa, Ontario in order to be considered. The position is Monday to Friday and is eligible for hybrid work.
The immediate intent of the process is to staff 1 EG-07 position in Ottawa.
This may result in a creation of a pool of qualified and partially qualified candidates within the Aircraft Services Directorate at Transport Canada. This pool may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures and as well as various linguistic requirements.

EDUCATION
ED1: Successful completion of a recognized post-secondary school program of studies in mechanical or aerospace technology or design or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience.
EXPERIENCE
EX1: Significant experience** in design and drawing of aircraft parts and subassemblies, for example structures, interiors, or electrical systems using 2D and 3D CAD (computer aided design) software and related tools.
EX2: Experience* in supervision of a team of employees engaged in the design, development, and modification of airborne mechanical and/or electrical system installations.
EX3: Significant experience** in planning and leading design and drafting project work including the configuration control of design data through the manufacture, installation, integration, and life cycle of structural and electrical equipment in aircraft.
EX4: Experience* in design of aircraft parts and sub-assemblies by applying principles of aircraft structures and systems, standard practices, and common aircraft manufacturing or repair techniques.
EX5: Experience* in application of aircraft regulations and certification requirements to design and repair of aircraft parts and sub-assemblies.
EX6: Significant experience** in developing, configuring, maintaining and/or procuring Computer-Aided Design (CAD) capability, and associated tools including the life-cycle management of all supporting hardware and software to ensure the continuous availability of effective design support equipment.

ASSET EXPERIENCE
AEX1: Experience in the use of Solidworks, Inventor, AutoCAD, Solidworks Product Data Management (PDM) programs.
AEX2: Knowledge of MathCAD and/or finite element analysis software.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
OR1: Willingness and ability to work overtime on short notice during the week or on weekends.
OR2: Willingness and ability to travel on occasion within North America, as well as internationally, if and when required.
OR3: Willingness and ability work in various positions on aircraft, which may involve standing, kneeling, lying, and sitting as well as crawling into confined spaces and climbing elevated maintenance stands.
