The department employs over six thousand persons, half of whom are based at headquarters in the National Capital Region, the other half serving at missions around the globe. No matter where they might be stationed, GAC staff play a vital role in promoting Canada’s place in the world and providing vital services to Canadians wherever they go abroad.
The Project Delivery & Professional Services Bureau (AWD) is the International Platform Branch’s physical infrastructure delivery agent, responsible for meeting the evolving needs of GAC’s missions abroad by designing, constructing, equipping and supporting Canada’s diplomatic and consular platform abroad. The Commissioning and Engineering Services team (AWLT) provides Subject Matter Expertise (SME) throughout the project’s lifecycle, working in close collaboration with project stakeholders to create innovative, practical and buildable designs. We work with architects, contractors and other consultants in Canada and abroad. We help ensure our buildings are safe, secure, sustainable, efficient, and habitable for all Global Affairs Canada employees.

EDUCATION
- Graduation with a degree* from a recognized post-secondary institution in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, aeronautical engineering, geological engineering, naval architecture or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.
*A degree is defined as a baccalaureate or higher-level degree, as established by educational authorities.
AND
Certification as a professional engineer in Canada.
EXPERIENCE
EX1 – Minimum of five (5) years of experience in leading and carrying out technical assessments in three or more of the following environmental aspects of real property management: drinking water, indoor air quality, fuel tank management, environmental site investigations, and hazardous materials.
EX2 – Experience in the analysis of engineered systems, site assessments and providing technical advice.
EX3 – Experience in managing an environmental program including contract and financial management.
EX4 – Experience in the interpretation of environmental policies, or guidelines as they relate to federal real property management.
EX5 – Experience as an environmental subject matter expert on a multi-disciplinary project team.
EXPERIENCE
AEX1 - Experience in environmental aspects of real property management including sustainable buildings, water treatment and contaminated site remediation.
AEX2 - Experience in environmental management of real property, construction and operations outside of North America.
AEX3 - Experience in project management related to major capital construction projects.

K2 – Knowledge of environmental standards and methodologies for collecting and interpreting analytical data related to site investigations and contaminated sites to identify problems and issues.
K3 – Knowledge of the risk assessment process, methods and technologies used to evaluate and mitigate potential risks to human health and the natural environment.
K4 – Knowledge of trends and developments in environmental management of real property.
