About the Role

We are seeking a Labour Relations Manager to join our People Team whose objective is to build a high-performance culture at Corus where our people are aligned, equipped, and inspired to do great work.

Reporting to the Director, People and Culture and Head of Labour Relations, you will provide advice and guidance on the interpretation of our Collective Agreements and the Canada Labour Code. You will have an oversight of all internal grievances and support the collective bargaining processes together with preparation, coordination and leading our response to arbitrations.

Who We're Looking For:

Our ideal candidates have 5+ years’ experience in a similar role, ideally in a multi-site environment. Previous experience in labour relations is a requirement.

You will contribute by:

  • You will be Corus’s go to expert on everything LR. Under the direction of the Director of People & Culture and Labour Relations and in partnership with the local Business Partners you will manage all aspects of Labour Relations for Corus.
  • Provide expert advice on LR situations related to the interpretation of policies, procedures, and applicable legislation to determine corrective measures, while supporting leaders in delivering decision making to the impacted party and ensure consistent application across the Company.
  • Advise on changes to Canada Labour Code, its impacts and make recommendations on how these should be implemented and action as required.
  • Advise People & Culture Business Partners and Business Leaders on the interpretation of the collective agreements, the Canada Labour Code.
  • Working with the Director, People & Culture and Head of Labour Relations prepare for all collective agreement’s negotiations and actively participate in the negotiation process.
  • Provide advice, guidance, and creative solutions to leaders and business partners regarding issues related to the interpretation of the CA and where appropriate agree MOUs with the union in the service of developing flexible arrangements regarding management rights.
  • Proactively collaborate with leaders to create a positive employee relations environment.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with these local and national union representatives.
  • Research, prepare and lead job classifications processes and meetings for all Unionized roles.
  • Function as Employee co-chair of Corus’s Policy Committee. The committee oversees all aspects of Safety and health.

Skills and experience you will bring:

  • Post-secondary education in related subjects (i.e., LR/ER/HR) complemented by related work experience in a unionized environment.
  • Good knowledge and experience of Federal employment legislation (e.g., CLC)
  • Experience in arbitration process
  • Experience in positive employee relations strategy and execution
  • Demonstrates consulting and coaching skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship building and influencing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team in a fast-paced rapidly changing environment.
  • A positive attitude and client-driven approach that will enable you to deal with challenging situations with integrity, empathy, and sincerity.
