About the Role:

Global News has an immediate full-time opening for a Network Video Journalist to join their team. Reporting to the Director, Network Resources, the successful candidate will create and edit original videos for all Global News platforms including OTT, digital, broadcast. This position involves working morning, evening, and weekend shifts. This is a Group 3 position under the current collective agreement.

You will contribute by:

  • Manage daily curation and editing of video content on OTT, globalnews.ca and other digital platforms.
  • Consults with producers about line-ups, scripts, video, and audio requirements from various sources.
  • Assist in re-editing, augmenting, and packaging of feed, FTP, affiliate, and resource materials for other markets.
  • Advanced FX knowledge: manipulate video and graphics (blur, pixelate, voice disguise, time lapse, zoom, layer, isolate/highlight footage etc.)
  • Incorporate and generate packaging elements as required.
  • Knowledge in usage of Xpression templates & keys (loading & manipulating timing of supers, banners, and FF images)
  • Recommend and locate visuals that will enhance our content.
  • Coordinate the movement of content between stations, digital and other divisions of Global News and Corus
  • Coordinate, manage and edit live streams across multiple platforms.
  • Help facilitate and coordinate double enders across all platforms.
  • Coordinate distribution of raw material and edited packages through MediaNet and Grass Valley for Affiliates and Online
  • Coordinate Network Pool Feeds
  • Knowledge of FTP, satellite, and fibre bookings
  • Assist local stations in breaking news situations with video content.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Skills and experience you will bring:

  • Post-secondary education (or equivalent experience) in broadcast journalism or a related field.
  • Experience in feed center or resource desk.
  • Strong Technical skills with knowledge and experience in ingest, feed coordination including file transfers and editing.
  • Editing skills and familiarity with Grass Valley, Adobe Creative Suite, and ENPS
  • Experience using digital content management system (CMS, like WordPress to publish, update and curate digital content)
  • Experience using live streaming platforms and hardware.
  • Creative thinker, able to innovate the story-telling process; open to taking risks in the development of unique content for a multi-faceted digital news operation.
  • Must be able to adapt to the rapidly changing media and technology landscape.
  • Works to improve and positively impact the team through cooperation and collaboration.
  • A diverse background in national news is considered an asset.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and perform in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Capable of working with tight deadlines while using sound judgment on news decisions
  • Proven leadership and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Maintains and communicates a high level of enthusiasm and commitment; applies feedback in a positive manner.
  • Demonstrates positive working relationships with team members and other departments.
  • Positive attitude and team player!
