Status: Temporary Contract

Location: Toronto, ON - Don Mills (Onsite)

About the Role:
Global Toronto is currently looking for a Producer for a temporary full-time contract to join their team. Reporting to the Supervising Producer, the successful candidate will be an experienced and creative producer, who is passionate about local news. A journalist who understands what it takes to create smart, innovative, and impactful live programming, and approaches it from a multi-platform view. Your role will help shape our marquee local news programs. This is a Group 3 position under the current collective agreement.


You will contribute by:

  • Assisting in determining the look, style, and format of the show and stories, based on established criteria and values.
  • Working with reporters to shape stories and story elements.
  • Writing stories, teases and headlines, and vetting scripts.
  • Producing interview segments, including the set-up, focus, questions, and visual elements.
  • Pitching and producing original and compelling content for Global News Toronto.
  • Having the ability to be a strong team player on the editorial team.
  • Working with fellow producers and writers to maintain Global News editorial standards.
  • Planning, selecting, and requesting production and resource elements.
  • Working with affiliates and other Global News departments to co-ordinate coverage and resources.
  • Displaying strong editorial judgement.
  • Planning and producing special events and breaking news coverage.
  • Occasionally taking live programs to air in a control room setting, in a calm and decisive manner.
  • Performing other duties as required.

Skills and experience you will bring:

  • A university degree or equivalent post-secondary education in a broadcast-related field.
  • The ability to respond quickly and knowledgeably to breaking news.
  • Strong editorial judgment.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in television broadcasting, preferably in a major market.
  • Strong news writing skills and excellent news judgement.
  • Exemplary leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and maintain creativity in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to handle the demands and pressure of broadcast deadlines.
  • Ability to work well in a team setting.
  • Comprehensive editorial technical knowledge, including lineup management systems and editing programs.
  • A high comfort level with providing clear and constructive feedback.
  • Strong organizational skills.
