About the Role:

Global Regina’s News Department is currently seeking a full-time Assignment Editor to join their team. Reporting to the Managing Editor, the successful candidate will be responsible for editorial planning, camera coordination and reporter assignments for a variety of deadlines in a fast-paced news environment. The successful candidate for this position will be a quick thinker, a forward planner and have strong news judgement and leadership skills.


You will contribute by:

  • Organize and manage story ideas and story planning.
  • Run morning story meetings in tandem with Managing Editor and assign reporters and cameras.
  • Monitor for breaking news.
  • Chase and pitch original story ideas.
  • Manage and coordinate cameras and DBJ shoots, ensuring our resources are deployed efficiently and to fit our editorial mandate.
  • Coordinate and manage feeds.
  • Support reporters in the field as required.
  • Write and produce content with a high degree of clarity and accuracy, as needed.
  • Support early production of newscasts.
  • Support Managing Editor and MMC News Director with logistic planning for major events / specials.
  • Identify and coordinate graphics creation and ordering on day-to-day basis.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and experience you will bring:

  • Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in Journalism/Broadcasting/Broadcast Technology from a recognized institution.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a small/medium market.
  • Understanding of how major news organizations are employing a wide range of digital platforms and formats.
  • Willingness to adapt to rapidly changing technology and workflows.
  • Working knowledge of new media tools and technologies, and related applications.
  • Ability to handle the demands and pressure of multiple, daily online and broadcast deadlines in a high-tech environment.
  • Proven abilities as a team player with a positive attitude.
  • Self-starter with good communication skills.
  • Must work well under pressure, possess a desire to be the best, have a positive can-do attitude.
  • A valid driver’s license and clean driver's abstract is required.
