About the Role:
Global News, a division of Corus Entertainment, has an exciting opportunity available on its award-winning Kingston news team as a Supervising Producer. Reporting to the News Manager (Peterborough & Kingston), the successful candidate
will be responsible for helping assign, write, produce, and deliver news content. This is a Group 5 position under the current Collective Agreement. If you have a positive, can-do attitude, a passion for innovation and experience in a television newsroom, consider applying today!

You will contribute by:

  • Leads editorial discussions and assign video journalists each weekday in Kingston.
  • Produce, line-up and write news broadcasts for Kingston, working with teams across Ontario.
  • Produce local news content from video gathered in the field.
  • Troubleshoot challenges and communicate solutions to teams in the field.
  • Lead breaking news coverage for all platforms and write and produce breaking news content in newscasts and online, when required.
  • Collaborate with teams to determine editorial direction and content of newscasts.
  • Vet content for all platforms each day.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Skills and experience you will bring:

  • Post-secondary education in journalism, communications, or a related field.
  • A minimum of two years of experience as a news producer or a similar role.
  • The ability to respond quickly and knowledgeably to breaking news, communicating coverage plans to affiliate.
  • Understanding and awareness of issues facing residents in Kingston, and surrounding areas.
  • Understanding of innovative production techniques and technology.
  • Knowledge and experience using digital editing platforms like Edius and Final Cut.
  • Strong news writing skills.
  • Excellent news judgement and ability to lead news coverage.
  • Exemplary communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain creativity in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to manage the demands and pressure of multiple broadcast deadlines.
  • Ability to work well in a team setting, with teams in various locations.
  • Knowledge of social media tools and technologies (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc.), and related applications
  • Knowledge of Grass Valley editing software is an asset.
  • Demonstrates excellent writing and other TV production skills.
  • Demonstrates a high comfort level providing clear constructive feedback.
  • Possesses strong organizational skills.
