Reporting to the Manager of Digital Communications, Web Experience & Content, with the Communications Division, the Web Communications Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and implementing content on the web and across other digital channels. This individual has exceptional communication skills and experience coordinating projects from start to finish, ensuring effective digital communications to the public and other city audiences.
This position will work closely with communications, divisional/program area and technology services teams.
Major Responsibilities:
- Develops and implements detailed plans and recommends policies regarding program specific requirements, such as marketing, digital and web communications plans, coordinated workplans and integrated communications plans across multiple channels.
- Ensures that project expenditures are controlled and maintained withing approved budget limitations.
- Assigns and coordinates projects and monitors workflow.
- Consults with business units and provides support to project teams to ensure information is up to date and determine web-based service needs, and assists in identifying solutions to meet business requirements.
- Works in close partnership with content creators and subject matter experts to plan, create, coordinate ad publish service-oriented, people-focused content that is web-friendly, search engine optimized (SEO) and optimized for generative search and AI discovery (GEO), ensuring clarity, usefulness and findability across platforms.
- Motivates and trains staff, ensuring effective teamwork, high standards of work quality and organizational performance, continuous learning and encourages innovation in others.
- Conducts research into assigned areas ensuring that such research takes into account industry best practices, corporate policies and practices, legislation and initiatives by other governments.
- Provides analysis of the City's website through ongoing design and content reviews, content evaluations/audits and regular use of web analytics and data to assess accuracy, adherence to standards, usage patterns and overall effectiveness.
- Responds to inquiries and provides guidance to City staff and elected officials on the consistent design, look, feel, style, voice and navigation of the City's website, ensuring content is usable and accessible to a broad audience.
- Applies web content standards and design guidelines and contributes to the development of new standards and guidelines, as needed.
- Ensures that legal and legislated standards are upheld (e.g., AODA, MFIPPA, the Trade-mark Act, Copyright Act) and implements existing guidelines and standards to ensure web content meets legislation requirements, maximizes usability and reflects the City's brand and corporate voice.
- Ensures compliance with the Corporate Identity Program, Corporate Style and Web Writing Guides through the review of existing and proposed content, and ensures visual identity standards are met and that information is division neutral, service-oriented and people-centric, and reflects corporate and Council priorities.
- Provides content-related guidance to content creators and web editors across the organization, with a focus on meeting user needs through clear structure, plain language, effective navigation and consistent standards.
- Builds strong, collaborative relationships with internal partners and provides leadership within cross-functional teams to advance shared objectives.
- Maintains a high level of knowledge of a broad spectrum of mobile and web technologies, tools and best practices related to web and digital communications.
- Contributes positively to the goals of the division while providing professional web communications services to the corporation.
- Provides leadership as appropriate in the development and support of new web-based products and services as divisional information needs evolve.
