The Senior Project Manager, Land Economics is a new role within the City Planning Division that has been created to ensure that all aspects of City planning are informed by a clear understanding of land economics and the development market. As part of the inter-disciplinary City Planning management team and reporting to the Director & or Manager of, Strategic Initiatives, Policy & Analysis, the Senior Project Manager, Land Economics leads land economic analysis, projects, research and studies for strategic planning and decision-making purposes to guide the physical, environmental and social wellbeing of the City. The Senior Project Manager has a passion for city building and applies land economics expertise to developing and implementing workable solutions for complex policy challenges, offering a holistic perspective that informs the division’s decision-making, plans, and strategies.
In this role, the Senior Project Manager actively engages in major policy and planning initiatives by evaluating land economics for different development and land use policy options and offering expert advice to integrate and align current planning activities with broader strategic objectives and Council priorities. By leveraging external and community expertise, industry trends, and intergovernmental partnerships, the Senior Project Manager contributes to expediting the delivery of evidence-based outcomes responding to Toronto’s most pressing planning challenges.
Collaboration is essential to success in this role. The Senior Project Manager will engage in city planning activities outside the division and the City, representing the City on planning matters to ensure seamless coordination within the organization and with other jurisdictions, where appropriate. Additionally, they will serve as a liaison with Development Review staff and other City divisions and agencies, strengthening relationships and bridging perspectives between city-wide and local planning priorities. The role also involves working closely with the Chief Planner and the Directors’ team to provide strategic advice on key policy discussions, ensuring that decision- making processes are well-informed and forward-thinking.
