Major Responsibilities:
- Supports the development and ongoing maintenance of the TO360 program’s central GIS-based wayfinding database and other relevant databases.
- Reviews, amends and approves new and updated artwork templates and public-facing mapping products.
- Conducts geospatial analysis and data interpretation relating to program implementation planning and resource management.
- Organizes, consolidates, filters and processes geospatial datasets for sharing with vendors and wayfinding program partners.
- Utilizes existing TO360 content management systems to track wayfinding asset status, assign new elements and attributes and review graphic content associated with wayfinding assets.
- Participates in engagement sessions with stakeholders and program partners to intake new data and update information in the TO360 program’s central GIS-based wayfinding database.
- Supports new mapping and wayfinding initiatives.
- Administers, prepares, co-ordinates requirements and reviews designs, reports, specifications and any documentation related to wayfinding and construction projects.
- Prepares tenders and administers contracts for the installation, construction and rehabilitation of infrastructure to ensure contracts are carried out in accordance with City standards, specifications and procedures
- Conducts surveys, investigations, and studies for a variety of proposals, programs and projects pertaining to the City's facilities and infrastructure.
- Conducts field inspections, evaluates the condition of existing facilities and municipal assets, inspects the work of vendors and ensures that proper traffic control procedures are in place.
- Assists the Engineers, Project Managers and other management staff and carries out technical work for the planning, design, tendering, construction and inspection of municipal infrastructure.
- Assists with the preparation of budget and tracking of expenditures.
- Leads projects and directs staff on projects.
- Develops, maintains and monitors programs and systems
- Performs design work and prepares and checks map data and products using GIS input information.
- Checks and provides progress/inspection reports on the work of consultants, contractors and developers to ensure use of safety equipment, adherence to approved designs, procedures, regulations, statutes, specifications etc.
- Liaises with utility companies, developers, public, contractors, consultants, BIAs, City divisions and agencies and others to resolve problems
- Prepares training course materials and conducts training courses and demonstrations for users of GIS and wayfinding content management systems. Trains and directs the work of staff.
- Performs and/or reviews research and calculations and analyzes technical data.
- Investigates and responds to inquiries from the public, consultants, contractors related to wayfinding products and programs.
- Prepares, reads and interprets maps, plans and technical drawings.
- Performs engineering surveys (design and construction) for existing and new signage and wayfinding projects within public highways, parks, easements and private property.
Key Qualifications:
Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:
- Post-secondary education in an accredited Engineering Technology or Civil Engineering program or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Considerable experience in one or more of the following fields: design and construction of municipal roads/pavements, pedestrian and cycling facilities, mapping and cartography, traffic engineering, road safety, transit planning, retaining structures, geotechnical engineering and/or transportation infrastructure and asset management.
- Considerable experience with Geographical Information Systems (GIS) software, such as ESRI ArcGIS as well as other computer software including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Must possess and maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License and the ability to obtain a City's Driver's permit.
You must also have:
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to resolve customer issues, conflicts and complaints in-person, telephone and through written correspondence.
- Highly developed analytical skills and ability to make sound decisions using good judgement.
- Ability to write correspondence and reports in a clear, concise and legible manner.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to task switch (often referred to as multi-tasking) quickly and effectively to respond to changing work and program requirements.
- Ability to travel to various work sites in a timely and efficient manner.
- Experience in Adobe Indesign and/or Illustrator is considered an asset.
