On the Bell Media Digital team you will be a part of creating ground-breaking digital experiences that transform the way Canadians stay informed and entertained. From award-winning programming, to breaking world news and impactful local stories, your creativity, tenacity and technical expertise will be rewarded with a sense of belonging as you collaborate with the innovators around you.

Job Description

  • Generate original stories and other content for all platforms
  • Responsible for writing at least 5-7 news stories per day and updating them
  • Pitch ideas for original reporting
  • Ensure the accuracy, consistency and adherence to standards of all material on the site (articles, headlines, photos, captions, video, etc.)
  • Copy editing stories for grammar and accuracy
  • Video editing
  • May be asked to do on camera work
  • Visualizations in infographics, maps, quizzes, timelines and data journalism
  • Monitoring and publishing wires, with focus on SEO, keywords and social sharing
  • Managing multiple social media streams; sending news alerts
  • Participate in news editorial meetings
  • Posting video, images and article to online platforms
  • Visual storytelling (curating photo galleries, editing vertical videos)
  • Translate French wire copy into clean, consistent English text
  • Other duties as assigned

Critical Qualifications

  • At least 2 years’ experience in a newsroom
  • Ability to write accurate and engaging headlines
  • Must demonstrate accountability and teamwork
  • Experience writing news stories for the Montreal market is an asset
  • Ability to work under constant tight deadlines; time management skills and multi-tasking abilities are essential
  • Must be familiar with Canadian Press Style Guide and Canadian libel law
  • Degree in journalism preferred
  • Keen interest and understanding of local news and current affairs, local community issues and political structures
  • Television experience, on-camera experience and camera operation abilities an asset
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, Adobe Photoshop and other applications in the Adobe Creative Suite is an asset
  • Familiarity with newsroom management systems (e.g. iNews, etc.) and video encoding/format transferring an asset
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record required
  • Experience in breaking news coverage
  • Strong visual storytelling ability (through images and video)
  • In the course of their duties, this person will be required to interact with French & English speaking stakeholders across Canada
  • Demonstrates a foundational understanding of AI and its applications; stays curious, recognizes ethical implications, and uses AI-enabled tools to enhance everyday work

Adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
