Description

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain and Data Center facilities and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

This is a first-of-its-kind role in a Supply Chain Facility Management (SCFM) space, which is responsible for the receiving, testing, staging, and logistics of rack hardware before deployment to data centers. The engineer will support the facility's cooling infrastructure (not the IT equipment itself), ensuring the physical environment supports safe and reliable rack testing operations. As an Amazon Critical Infrastructure Field Engineer, you will provide full life-cycle engineering support across Amazon's SCFM facilities and Data Centers (DCs). You will serve as the primary engineering subject matter expert (SME) for your region, partnering with the SCFM team, Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) partners, and cross-functional stakeholders to maintain the safety, reliability, and operational efficiency of critical building infrastructure.

Amazon's vision is to be the world's most customer-centric company, and this role is key to that vision. As a Critical Infrastructure Field Engineer, you will be leading projects to fit out the facilities we support to meet ever-evolving customer needs as we continue expanding our fleet in both Supply Chain facilities and hyper scale Data Center. As an ideal candidate you:
* Possess Strong Engineering Judgement and are able to provide recommendations despite uncertainty
* Are detail and data oriented
* Have experience managing engineering projects and consultants.
* Build trust and relationships with different stakeholders (e.g., Operations, Commissioning, Construction and Design)
* Be inclined to get into the field to see things up close.

Key job responsibilities
• Troubleshoot, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and create Corrective Action (CA) documentation for equipment failures
• Conduct feasibility studies for existing facility upgrades, review design solutions, improve availability, increase efficiency, and reduce operational cost, including Liquid Cooling technology enablement for Server and Rack Test environments
• Drive standardization of space planning, design implementation, and construction practices, leveraging core competency in facility and project management to deliver operational efficiencies to partner teams across AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS)
• Ability to navigate through ambiguity and directly support operational issues with minimum technical guidance, complex operating procedure reviews, critical equipment assessments, and on-site event support with cross functional teams
• Interface with internal teams including hardware engineers, Fleet Remediation Engineering, program managers, Environmental Health & Safety, Control, Design and Construction teams to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability across the facilities
• Initiate and lead engineering audits, including on-site visits and produce reports outlining risks with recommended mitigations and lead remediations through implementation
• Act as resident engineer during new construction and fit-out projects. Support construction, review commissioning scripts and acceptance criteria, and turnover of new facilities
• Review preventive maintenance programs, ensuring proactive building preventive maintenance and optimal facility performance in partnership with the Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) partners
• Excited about a mix of office and field work. 25 % or more domestic and international travel may be required

A day in the life
Amazon's vision is to be the world's most customer-centric company, and this role is key to that vision. As a Critical Infrastructure Field Engineer within SCFM and Data Center, you will be leading facility upgrade and greenfield building projects to support the ever-growing demands of DCs and Amazon's global Supply Chain operations.

As an ideal candidate you:
* Possess strong engineering judgement and can provide recommendations despite uncertainty, including in the absence of complete data
* Are organized with the ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and manage budgets across a dynamic, fast-paced environment
* Possess leadership and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to drive results across cross-functional teams including hardware engineers, program managers, QS, and IFM partners
* Ability to develop solutions and execute plans on complex facility and infrastructure projects, including new technology enablement such as Liquid Cooling
* Possess excellent communication and writing skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage and communicate results to senior leadership
* Are detail and data oriented, using business judgement to make the right decisions quickly
* Have experience managing engineering projects and contractors/consultants, including global Design and cross functional stakeholders
* Build trust and relationships with diverse stakeholders including Operations, Commissioning, Construction, Design, Supply Chain, Data Center and Security teams
* Are adaptable and inclined to get into the field to see things up close, embracing ambiguity in driving new technology and facility upgrades
* "Think Big" — seeing beyond barriers and challenges to reset the bar for Amazon facility standards globally
