Description

The Environmental Assurance and Protection (EAP) organization is seeking a talented Senior Environmental Compliance Manager to develop and lead environmental compliance integration for new Amazon launches across Europe. This 12-month fixed term contract role will ensure Customer Fulfillment Centers, Sortation Centers, Amazon Logistics sites, and emerging businesses meet all environmental regulatory requirements before launch, and to the EAP standards.

The successful candidate will serve as the primary environmental compliance liaison between Global Engineering Services (GES), EU Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Design and Construction Safety, and EAP Field teams. You will own the development and implementation of environmental compliance requirements, ensuring GES obtain necessary environmental permits, install required environmental management modules at design reviews, and achieve full launch readiness prior to Operations handover.

This position requires strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills with proven experience delivering high-quality compliance programs. You will work directly with infrastructure business partners and leadership across Engineering, Operations, Construction, Public Policy, Legal, and Sustainability teams.

We as EAP strive to keep the network moving compliantly, efficiently, and sustainably. We work on the most challenging problems, with multiple variables impacting our supply chain — and we're looking for talented people who want to help. You'll collaborate with people across the Amazon organization to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and compliance while providing optimal operational efficiency. You'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

Key job responsibilities
Launch Compliance Integration:
- Develop and implement environmental compliance requirements for new site launches across EU Operations, ensuring alignment with Global Engineering Services, EU WHS Design and Construction Safety, and EAP Field teams.
- Own the environmental compliance roadmap for new launches, defining requirements for permits, equipment specifications, and operational readiness criteria.
- Establish and maintain launch readiness checklists and compliance verification processes for environmental requirements.

Permit and Regulatory Management
- Track, and secure all required environmental permits for new launches, including air quality, water discharge, and waste management.
- Engage with regulatory agencies across EU member states to ensure timely permit acquisition and compliance with local, national, and EU environmental regulations.
- Develop permit tracking systems and escalation protocols to prevent launch delays due to environmental compliance gaps.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Global Engineering Services to integrate environmental compliance requirements into site design specifications and construction plans.
- Collaborate with EU WHS Design and Construction Safety teams to ensure environmental and safety requirements are harmonized and efficiently implemented.
- Work with EAP Field teams to verify on-site compliance, equipment installation, and operational readiness before launch.

Compliance Program Development
- Create standardized environmental compliance frameworks, tools, and documentation for new launches across EU Operations.
- Measure and analyze site performance against environmental policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements at launch stage. Identify deficiencies and develop mitigation plans.

Risk Management and Continuous Improvement
- Identify environmental compliance risks that could impact launch timelines and develop mitigation strategies.
- Drive continuous improvement of environmental compliance processes, leveraging lessons learned from previous launches.
- Maintain awareness of changing EU environmental regulations and industry best practices, adapting launch requirements accordingly.

A day in the life
You will manage environmental compliance programs and projects for new Amazon launches, where regulatory requirements are defined but business solutions may need development. You will be the environmental subject matter expert for new launches, staying current on EU environmental regulations, permit requirements, and compliance innovations.

You will drive regulatory compliance outcomes and risk reduction, establishing mechanisms to bring environmental risks within tolerance levels before launch. You will manage project schedules, overcome obstacles, and maintain scope control while coordinating across multiple teams and geographies.
You will interface regularly with construction teams, engineering partners, operations leaders, and regulatory agencies to ensure environmental compliance is integrated seamlessly into launch timelines.
